Today, I once again wake up worrying about 's future.

Why is a shitbag such as still allowed to single-handedly maintain fundamental libraries for the ecosystem? Why is he part of Library API team? How is he not permabanned for single-handedly permanently damaging Rust by killing off comptime reflection over his racism? How is he not permabanned for the power play he attempted to pull with his "RFC" after pushing pre-compiled binary to serde without notice? Why are MIC companies routinely tolerated at Rust conventions? Why does no one talk about it, despite the problems not being solved? Has takeover taught people nothing? Will Rust survive another year without turning into ?

So many questions. I think about them every time I use Rust, which is often.

Apropos of nothing.

Excellent video, well worth a watch.

I completely agree with the premise. I love my tech, don't get me wrong... but I prefer to own my media, where possible - at least the stuff I really care about. And having an analog backup of data or manual override for digital controls is mandatory for anything important.

To every artist out there that does stickers: I love you.

I know it can be a pain to find a good vendor and keep track of inventory and whatnot - but it makes your art very accessible for folks who might not be able to afford prints or commissions, and I really appreciate that.

I also just love stickers, but I really love accessible art.

Hmm, I'm starting to get some fan noise from the previously silent Noctua air cooler on the household server. It's been in roughly 24/7/365 service since 2022-03-24: I can't really begrudge it anything for gradually failing. I'll have to book some time and schedule an outage window to replace it this week. Or maybe early January.

The UK Online Safety Act returns to Parliament.

It's enabled iffy age-assurance providers, wrongly censored content and shuttered small sites while doing nothing to tackle the dominance of major platforms.

Tell your MP to attend the debate on 15 December ⬇️

The weather in Denmark is really strange. Decades ago we would have snowstorms at this time of year with temperatures down to –20 ℃, but today it was +9 ℃ and next week it will be +10 ℃.

I took this photo on a hike through the forest of Gødding today, where it felt like a typical mild September day.

I wonder if we have seen the last white Christmas in Denmark.

I'm going to keep calling out companies that offer to pay me to repost stuff on my site. Especially the AI-backed ones, which seem unusually aggressive in this PR tactic. Who knows, maybe they'll stop sending them to me at least (not holding my breath).

Hi Brian,

I'm reaching out with Adaptive Security, OpenAl's first
cyber investment. We protect companies from deepfake
threats with next-generation security awareness training.
We have a major announcement coming next Tuesday. |
came across your profile and thought you'd be a great fit
for a sponsored post supporting the news.

We're happy to start at $1000 for a single post.

Our marketing team can provide you a content draft, so
all you'll have to do is copy and paste :)

Let me know if you're up for it - we are finalizing our
sponsored community soon.

Cheers,

Federation isn’t just a feature, it’s how we reject oppression by design.

In the EU, Big Centralised Tech is facing fines for selling verification and hiding ads. At Mastodon, we’re building something different: a space where no one buys influence and there simply aren't any ads.

Checks and balances are our foundation, and kindness is our compass. 🌈

A better web is possible - and it's powered by the people. Donate

Four colourful cartoon mastodons stand together on grass, each with a speech bubble. The illustration shows diverse voices speaking up and building something together.
