today I discovered that a whole stack of my personal files, including multiple books I had written and performances recorded, were no longer on my hard drive, because Windows had deleted them "to free up space" and only kept the copies on their onedrive server. That's not a backup. That's deleting my work without asking me. I'm switching to Linux.

I've been thinking a lot recently about how, like many people in this society, I grew up believing that there were people who did amazing things, and there were people like me, who did not

And then more recently I started to figure out that dividing people into those two categories was unhelpful to myself in doing interesting things, and probably unfair to whoever I was putting on a pedestal

So even without trying to understand why so many people are taught this belief (probably trauma, and the unexamined beliefs of their parents and teachers), I think that it's one of the most important things we can teach, alongside practical skills, is that, hey, if you practice long enough, you can probably become incredibly skilled at that skill which you admire

I created an Alfred Emoji Search workflow/plugin this week because the one I was using struggled to stay up-to-date.

Claude Code helped me make quick work of bundling and opening the plugin and troubleshooting what otherwise felt like a black box. I plan to add more shortcodes like what Slack and Discord use, but this works for me.

It also uses UV + Pydantic behind the scenes which is fun.
