Computers should not act like human beings

Mark Weiser has written a really interesting article about just how desirable new computing environments, like VR, "AI" agents, and so on, really are. On the top of "AI" agents, he writes:

Take intelligent agents. The idea, as near as I can tell, is that the ideal computer should be like a human being, only more obedient. Anything so insidiously ap

For all the conspiracy theories about various cabals of shadowy figures running the world secretly, it's kind of exasperating to be able to point to specific named individuals - fucking Altman, fucking Musk, fucking Thiel - as being the actual driving force behind massive injustices and inequities, who can get away with this due to having the resources to make themselves inaccessible for any redress.

I fucking hate this situation.

I picked up a Kinesis Advantage360 Pro the other day but was struggling with what to do with my trackpad.

Way back in 2012 or so I stuck an original Magic Trackpad to my first Advantage2 between the key wells and thus it's been for more than a decade, but that doesn't work with an actual split keyboard.

Piecing together a few ideas I found on Reddit, I picked up a MagSafe-compatible phone stand and a steel ring sticker. Apply sticker to back of trackpad, magnet it to the phone stand, ✨ ergonomics ✨.

We'll see how long it lasts wrt tension in the stand's joints. Hard to say if it's super stiff just because it's cold.

Apple Magic Trackpad 2 perched atop a MagSafe phone stand. Overhead view of a desk. At the far side, from the left, a bamboo pen organizer, a coffee cup, a water bottle, and a Magic Keyboard with Touch ID because I can't be bothered to type my password a thousand times a day.

On the near side, a Kinesis Advantage360 split keyboard. Between two halves is a Magic Trackpad perched on a phone stand, nearer to the right half of the keyboard than the left.

I've just seen an absolutely disgusting article. I said "seen", not "read", because I'm blind and I could not read it.
for your reference, here's the first beautiful sentence of this article:
"ffGE ARrj XRejm XAj bZgui cB R EXZgl, Rmi mjji jrjg-DmygjREDmI XgRDmDmI iRXR XZ DlkgZrj."
I don't know the technology behind this BS, but screen readers see it as scrambled text, kind of encrypted or something like this. I guess it's some font juggling (ChatGPT supposed it's gliph scrambling, where random Unicode values are mapped to random letters — I'll trust her in this because I really don't care about the tech behind it), but if you have a tiny little grain of empathy, never ever ever do this, for goodness sake.
