i used to do more photography along these lines. these days, writing takes up most of my time. but once upon a time i took my camera out and used it to approach everyday objects in interesting ways.

So hypothetically, (I'm NOT suggesting this literally, this is for discussion purposes only!)

Prompt:
if users ONLY had Public/Followers only/Private as 'base' post types, how would they be negatively impacted? *Specifically* what types of posts would fall through the cracks? How limited would Followers only really be?

Goal:
There obviously would be negative impact. By discussing how, we can brainstorm BETTER ways of giving them this functionality

Sometimes it's not "how can you bike in this", it's "how can I not bike in this". Which is why today is the surprise last bike commute day of the year, when I thought last Thursday would be.

(Tomorrow is a WFH day for me and then the entire university is on break until January. I will hopefully do at least one more bike ride this year, for groceries. Maybe it'll be warm enough before January 1st for one last recreational ride, too.)

In Austria (maybe among other places), something - let's say a field of study - that is deemed to have litle to no economic value is often labelled "orchid".

Of course, capitalism cannot appreciate something for just being beautiful (or interesting). If it cannot be commodified, it must be worthless.

Although the label is meant derogatory, I like the symbolism. Because appreciating something like beauty for its own sake, without needing it to have value, is a pretty anti-capitalistic message.

I couldn't understand Waymo's actions during the massive blackout, but I realized this was the best way. In such chaotic circumstances, it seems staying put is the way to minimize harm rather than having the car move and potentially cause an accident.

Uncovered some of my childhood model train sets and my daughter is loving it (2y). It's a totally unique feeling watching my own child play with a set of toys I played with when I was only a little older than her, too. She's been so good about being gentle with them, too.
