지금 와서 생각해보면, 마포나 풀프레임이나 판형은 내가 하고 싶은 사진을 찍는데는 큰 차이는 없었다. 다만 마포는 찍을 때 제한이 많아 생각을 더 해야 한다는 것이, 풀프는 장비 크기와 무게가 늘어 귀찮아 진다는 것이 단점들이었다. 가장 큰 차이는 바디의 조작성과 AF 성능이었고, 파나 G9M2가 풀프급 크기/무게여서 캐논 RF로 왔다. 신형 바디도 쓰고 싶었고. ㅋㅋㅋ;

Super Mario Bros. and Yoshi Games’ Affordance of Childlike Wonder and Reduced Burnout Risk in Young Adults: In-Depth Mixed Methods Cross-Sectional Study

Background: Unrelenting pressure and an “always-on” culture can leave no time for genuine rest among young adults. While playing video games has been noted to afford cognitive escapism and relaxation, critical questions remain about the influence of popular video games, such as Super Mario Bros., and their potential effects on young adults’ burnout risk. Objective: This study examined the extent to which, if at all, popular video games such as Super Mario Bros. and Yoshi could foster childlike wonder. It also investigated the potential of these games to reduce burnout risk among young adults. Methods: We used a mixed methods approach. First, qualitative data were collected through 41 exploratory, in-depth interviews (women: n=19, 46.3%; men: n=21, 51.2%; prefer not to disclose sex: n=1, 2.4%; mean age 22.51, SD 1.52 years) with university students who had experience playing Super Mario Bros. or Yoshi. Second, quantitative data were collected in a cross-sectional survey (N=336) of players of Super Mario Bros. and Yoshi to examine the games’ affordance of childlike wonder, overall happiness in life, and burnout risk. Results: Insights from in-depth interviews showed that players appreciated the ability of Super Mario Bros. and Yoshi games to instill childlike wonder, enhance happiness in life, and reduce burnout risk. Quantitative analyses showed that the games’ affordance of childlike wonder positively affected young adults’ happiness (b=0.30, SE=0.04, t=6.80, 95% CI 0.21-0.38; P<.001). In turn, overall happiness significantly reduced the risk of burnout (b=–0.48, SE=0.05, t=–9.55, 95% CI –0.572 to –0.377). Results showed that happiness fully mediated the impact of childlike wonder on burnout, as the direct effect of childlike wonder on burnout risk became insignificant (b=–0.08, SE=0.04, t=–1.88, 95% CI –0.16 to 0.01; P=.06), while the indirect effect of childlike wonder on burnout risk was significant (b=–0.14, bootstrapped SE=0.03, 95% CI –0.20 to –0.09). Conclusions: The findings showed the significant positive effect of popular video games such as Super Mario Bros. and Yoshi on fostering players’ childlike wonder, increasing happiness, and reducing burnout risk. This study was among the first to identify childlike wonder as an emotional pathway through which mainstream video games could enhance well-being and reduce burnout. By moving beyond escapism and nostalgia, it offers a new perspective on how well-designed, globally familiar games can function as accessible, resilience-building digital microenvironments. These findings contributed to research bridging gaming and mental health and have practical implications for game designers, educators, and health professionals interested in promoting mental wellness through everyday play. Like many other autistic and/or disabled people I will spend Christmas on my own and while I appreciate my alone time and the atmosphere and the silence of it, I know it can be difficult and hurtful.

So I would like to connect with other people who spend Christmas on their own or experience feelings of loneliness during these days, by interacting with this post.

That can be just leaving and receiving a virtual hug or telling each other about the gifts you received or gave yourself during the year, maybe share a piece of music, write about your favourite video game or any other special interest. You can do this in private mode (English or German), I know that interacting with groups can be difficult, impossible sometimes, but every now and then I write posts like this during a moment of bravery and I already found amazing online friends by doing so.

Let's support each other in a world that makes building connection so difficult and feelings of loneliness so common.

Boosts are very much appreciated. Thank you.

@KaCiKaCi :AuPan: I’m on my own too.
I’ve made my place cozy and decorated a bit this year for it without spending much money. A tree of books. Just a few little touches here and there to make it special for me. It has helped somewhat. It’s nice to look at. It gives me a smile. I wasn’t going to spend another Christmas alone without making it nice for me. I still get to have a Christmas.

A Christmas book tree made of red & green bound books, some with gilt lettering, festooned with disco balls, fairy lights, ribbons, garland, and netsuke.
At the top is a tiny poseable male drawing model wearing a fuzzy red scarf and holding a small disco ball.

Just as we need to work to dismantle the racism and sexism that we've learned, we need to work to dismantle our inner systems of capitalism and puritanism. This is why you'll hear people (especially Black leaders) name rest as resistance.

This thread is inspired by a mom in a parenting group posting about how exhausted she is because her daughter is sick, so she's barely slept while taking care of her... and she's overwhelmed about hosting a holiday dinner tomorrow.

Please do not host a holiday dinner while you have been run ragged taking care of a sick family member.

You should be resting, because your body is trying to fight off that illness. You're basically giving the virus the win.

You should not be inviting people into your virus-ridden home.

And during a pandemic, eating indoors with others – an activity that requires unmasking – is a supremely bad idea.

And yet if we can make ourselves do it... we most likely will make ourselves do it. Resting feels like cheating. It feels bad.

Puritanism is the layer under everything else in American culture. We rarely notice or talk about it. But it's tied to white supremacy, perfectionism, workaholism, and a whole smorgasbord of judginess.

Capitalism, well, we know its flaws. But we've internalized it to an extent that most of us don't even realize. Our sense of worth is intimately tied to achievement.

The intersection of puritanism & creates an incredibly insidious, toxic form of .

Push through the pain. Work through your illness. Keep going through your burnout.

Puritanism tells you that this is virtuous, and makes you a good person. Capitalism requires overwork for your survival.

Pair this with a pandemic, and you've got a nasty escalation of eugenics.
