What is Hackers' Pub?

Hackers' Pub is a place for software engineers to share their knowledge and experience with each other. It's also an ActivityPub-enabled social network, so you can follow your favorite hackers in the fediverse and get their latest posts in your feed.

This year the to is going to be a distributed system 🐙🚋

We’re doing this completely on a voluntary basis, so if anyone has professional skills or connections, they would be very welcome!

In the long run we want to make it so even those who would otherwise have a hard time to afford it, can travel to ecologically and in good company. If anyone wants to sponsor, that would be amazing.

We are organizing the individual routes to here:

A visual overview (Kanban board style) is here – here you can easily see which routes are leaving when and going through which countries (or suggest/add another one):

Because with Nix you define your whole system as a Nix expression, it should be possible to get an inventory of everything for further analysis - for example for vulnerability scanning.

Of course it's never quite that easy! There's a lot of potential, but also a lot of work remaining before we can get a nice signal-to-noise ratio without missing things.

I wrote up an introduction to and summary of the current state of SBOM tools for NixOS, including nice clickable example output. Still a bit of a draft, I expect updates - feedback welcome!

one of the browsable SBOMs: a tree of the run-time dependencies of 'nethogs' and the start of the 'raw' SBOM itself.

Merry Christmas to those who celebrate and a wonderful day to everyone!

I have a fond memory of this Christmas demo: youtu.be/TYJl1EzBs_4?t=40

In the shopping mall of my home town, there was a kind of general store and they had booth with a Commode SX-64. A student was demoing different software.

I must have been 12 or 13, and I probably spent the whole afternoon with her, watching this demo or playing Forbidden Forest.
