Christopher Tanner (Guardian letters) is right:

we don't need a social mobility plan what we need is an equality plan... we don't need to play the game of class difference better, we need to reduce (and reduce the influence of) class difference(s) in the first place.

A plan for equality is what we need (what one might have expected from a so-called left Govt, but yes I know they're Labour in Name Only)... however, this is something our political class will never deliver!

I disagree with the very idea of having a social mobility plan. The term itself captures the essence of what is wrong – class and inequality, and the notion that being upwardly mobile is the path to success. We are still a deeply class-divided society, underpinned by vast differences in economic and educational opportunity that recreate the social markers and attitudinal differences towards achievement and aspiration that constantly divide us. We need an equality plan, not a social mobility one. As in 1997, a Labour government with a huge majority is failing to come up with a narrative that goes beyond ideas that merely tinker around the edges of the real challenge. I don’t see any fixes on the horizon. The internet connected us but instead of creating empathy it just exposed how much we disagree with half the country.

It was supposed to connect us with people on the other side of the world they were telling us to hate. That's what it did, and that's what companies like Facebook and Google have done their best to suppress by artificially limiting reach to same language and geographic bubbles.

15/n Green Scarf Guy has been replaced by a woman who wears oversized tights. I had Sweet Caroline stuck in my head, caused by reminiscing about last year's NYE. Now listening to my favourite Tori Amos album (Boys for Pele) in an effort to get rid of it.

Hand-knit Jumper Woman seems to have gotten through a particularly tricky yoke-shaping phase and seems more relaxed now.

트위터를 보다가 일본쪽에서는 커뮤니티(츠이타 기능)가 있으니 거기 문의하자 라는 의견을 좀 봤는데 저는 좀 회의적이네요.

사실 이런점은 유저와 플랫폼의 신뢰같은게 있어야 가능한데 유감스럽게도 지금 트위터와 유저의 신뢰도는 까마득한 옛날에 박살이 난상태거든요.

제가 본계정에 플텍을 건 이유도 블락 기능의 개악 때문인데 얘네들 엔지니어가 "블락 기능 수정했습니다 ^^"식으로 했는데 유저들이 그렇게 들고 일어났지만 그거 수정됐습니까?
API 기습 차단및 정책 변경도 "크롤러들이 글 긁는데 그럼 어떻할래" 하면서 기습으로 넣은 트윗보기 개수 제한도 심지어 이번 이미지 Ai수정도 일방적 통보였는데 어떻게 접고 갈거라고 믿어요?

그리고 그거다 오너 양반 독단으로 지른거 아닙니까. 그게 의견 내서 수정될거면 벌써 수정 됐어요. 참 순수해 빠진 이야기네요.

Honestly, the biggest problems we have about data privacy are cultural.

We need better tools and better laws, yes. But we must not neglect working on our society's culture surrounding data privacy and consent.

It is the only way this will truly get better.
