This is a camera photo of a YouTube Short I published, playing back on my TV's YouTube app.

I do not look like this. I don't look this young and I'm not trying to. My face isn't remotely this smooth. My skin has blemishes, and freckles. My eyebrows are coarser.

YouTube's stupid AI upscaler has clearly made a pass, and I dislike it. I dislike it very much.

In 1991, a uni student from Finland started a "hobby" project because he couldn't afford to pay expensive Unix license that could run on a commodity hardware. At the time, he told on the mailing list that his project wouldn't be anything "big or professional."

It turned out that he was totally wrong.

Happy 56th Birthday to the creator of Linux kernel and git, Linus Torvalds! May you live healthy and happy forever. Thank you for all your hard work and providing us employment and keep it FLOSS๐Ÿ˜Š

I followed @stefanoStefano Marinelli 's fantastic guide: it-notes.dragas.net/2025/12/22

And installed Void Linux back on my daily driver.

I liked FreeBSD but Steam and a few other things wouldn't run. If that is sorted out later (in 15.1 or whichever) that would be cool. It was 99% there!

For now I've still got FreeBSD running on my 8th gen Intel laptop, so I still have something to use for that.

Stefano: Just one thing I would add to the guide: changing the /etc/hostname afterwards because it sets your hostname to "void-live". ๐Ÿ‘

anyway i was going to ask
does anyone know of something akin to protobuf (i.e. declarative binary serialisation system) except it doesn't have any special "wire format" it's literally just raw binary data in your specified structure

Itโ€™s a beautiful day until you realize that 64GB of high performance RAM carries the same price tag as a brand new MacBook Air featuring a "generous" 16GB of RAM. How did we get here? Here we call it the โ€œAIโ€ tax ๐Ÿ˜ and it is just the beginning of the new era for DIY users.
