I saw my aunt this weekend. I always admired her growing up: she was a dedicated dancer, bird watcher, traveler, and general arts-enjoyer. I took up ballet and piano because I wanted to be just like her.

I just found out that she started all of those hobbies after she got sober in her 40s, shortly before I was born. Her defining characteristics, in my eyes, have occupied less than half of her life.

It was a nice reminder that you can start a new chapter of your life whenever you’d like.

I've been mired in personal gloom of late so I didn't catch any of @TIBtv yet - but a huge shout-out to the many talented musicians, artists, animators, videographers and fediverse participants who have made it! Love that this exists, and I fully expect to tune in sometime soon.

Photo's from yesterday's OlieBollenTocht. It's an annual bicycle tour for velomobiles, held at the end of December when oliebollen are available. These are a kind of donut traditionally served for New Year's Eve in the Netherlands. For the first time ever, the tour was in Groningen. This meant that the start was less than 50 km from my home, so I went along this year (previously I've taken part in Zwolle and Utrecht but often it's too far from home so I don't take part).
