Python Tip #4 (of 365):

If you're debugging with print() calls, use a self-documenting expression in an f-string.

>>> n = 256
>>> print(f"DEBUGGING {n**2=}")
DEBUGGING n**2=65536

Note the replacement field with = at the end.

Without = in the replacement field, the string would contain only the expression result:

>>> print(f"DEBUGGING {n**2}")
DEBUGGING 65536

With the =, the string contains both the replacement field expression and the expression result.

* Who posted this? Are they a reporter, or do they have what looks like a reliable source?
* Have you heard of this news site before?
* Where is this photo from? Did they take it? Could it be something other than what the poster claims? Is there a way you can tell if it is what it says it is?

Elsewhere this morning I saw, "The old web is people creating and sharing because they are intrinsically motivated." A significant intrinsic motivation can be the joy of creating something by hand.

@lcamtuflcamtuf :verified: :verified: :verified: anecdotal but this was my experience with SE (and other exchanges too). Toxic, pedantic, sexist, or just outright hostile, I only posted if desperate. After the nth time being called a moron or moron equivalent and I'm perfectly fine with this specific site being replaced by LLMs

Perl monks otoh is a wonderful community and a worthy example that tech forums don't have to be a cesspool of brogrammer insecurity.

@solitha @inthehandsPaul Cantrell Exactly. We will do it, but it takes time. But the EU knows how to do it. We did it with GPS > Galileo. We’ll do it with Visa/Mastercard > Digital Euro. And there are efforts in other areas. It’ll be slow, but it will happen. We learned from the pandemic, and we’re learning from the actions of the current US government. The US can’t be trusted anymore, sadly. Insularity will be a consequence, but so be it.

Ci ho provato davvero.

Ho indossato l’armatura della pace, ho lucidato lo scudo del “dai, ripartiamo”, ho scavato con le mie mani la fossa del passato per seppellirci dentro rancori, screenshot, ripicche, e tutto quel museo delle cere che ci portiamo dietro.

Poi però.

Poi arriva quello che ti guarda e fa… “perché”
Poi arriva quello che ti fa la predica… “non è giusto dimenticare”
Poi arriva quello che sclera contro chiunque respiri
Poi arriva l’ennesimo progetto nato “per il bene comune” e lasciato lì come un’aiuola senza acqua, un cartello e un mozzicone.
E in mezzo… il solito coro di fesserie da tastiera, roba che ti fa venire voglia di spegnere il router e coltivare patate.

E allora niente.
Mi arrendo.
Non perché non ci credo, ma perché non ho più voglia di fare da mediatore, da psicologo, da parafulmine, da prete laico della riconciliazione.

Noi andiamo avanti col nostro stile.
Con la nostra idea di spazio civile.
Con la nostra ironia, la nostra cura, la nostra dignità.

Gli altri… facciano quello che vogliono.

Io torno a fare una cosa rivoluzionaria… vivere sereno.
