We plan to disable the "live feeds" of the local and federated timelines on mastodon.social within in the next couple of weeks. They are already disabled on mastodon.online. While these feeds can be useful on smaller, topical or regional servers, they have limited use on larger servers like ours.

The live feeds present all content on the server immediately and essentially pre-moderation, which presents a particularly poor experience to new users finding the fediverse for the first time.

I find the "trained on open data" line of reasoning really weird.

The datasets behind these models are from web scrapes, containing many sentences clearly taken from news websites that don't appear to have licensed their IP for that purpose - I don't see a difference between that and AI companies scanning in copyrighted books or art.

(Note: I'm not making a judgment either way on this, but if you are branding yourself on AI ethics, I think you need to be consistent in how you talk about this)

んなわけあるか를 옮길때 그 약간 '무너진' 언어감을 살리는게 까다로운 (그럴리가 있냐, 면 의미는 살지만 부러진 접사 phrase의 감각은 지워짐) 구석이 있는데 유행어인 "겠냐고요" 는 그걸 잘 살리는 말로 선택할만하다고 느껴져서 살짝 재밌다고 생각했음.

How do you all find cool blogs, video, and people to follow on the small web? That feels like the main selling point of big platforms like youtube and substack, there's a lot of stuff in one place. And search engines barely seem to index small blogs. I'd love to know about more small web alternatives.
