Some days, I wish the term "supply chain" hadn't escaped containment.

a few years ago i mentioned that i wrote a book about the exciting, awkward and embarrassing experiences of growing up with computers and video games in the 80s and 90s.

i wanted to remember what it felt like being the only dorky computer kid at school. or what it was like to hear my first modem handshake sound. or starting the first flamewar on the school's national FirstClass BBS in the macintosh lab over the lunch-hour

it was originally something i wrote only for my family and friends who were there at the time.

and then i met all of you folks when i started my first masto instance 4 years ago. i had no idea there were so many hardcore retrocomputing and gaming nerds out there; unix and mac and ms-dos folks alike.

so i mentioned it casually. i was surprised by the interest in the book.

so i spent the better part of the past 3 years rewriting the book for *you* fellow mastodon dorkus malorkuses. the book is a celebration of all of the best (and worst) parts of a kid growing up in the digital age.

we're all busy old tired stressed folks now. so every memory and cringetacular story is short enough to read on a 5 minute bus/metro/toilet ride. they're weaved together into an arc that starts at my family's first Tandy TRS-80 and ends at my school's Mac LC II and building my first Pentium 133.

it's finally published, and i'm super proud of what it became thanks to everyone here nerding out for years.

CES 관람은 정말 흥미롭고 행복했지만
도무지 납득이 되지 않았던 문화: 팁

미국을 꽤 오랜만에 (펜데믹 이후 처음) 방문해서 더욱 크게 체감하는거 같음.

분명 이전에는 가볍게 1~2불이나
많게는 5불정도로 팁을 주면 됐었는데…

아니 이젠 식당이며 택시며
결제란에 대놓고 20~40% 입력하라네??

물론 안주면 그만이라고는 해도
막상 안주면 기분 나빠하는 사람도 있어서 괜한 미안함과 찝찝함만 생기고…

미국에 거주하지 않아 팁문화에 대한 이해가 부족해서 그런건지 모르겠는데 비록 선택할수 있다고 할 지언정 이런식으로 팁 강요하는게 맞는건가유?!

오늘 퇴근길이 중요하니 ECMWF의 +12시간 모델을 좀 더 자세히 보겠습니다. 하층에는 빨간 선과 초록 선이 갑자기 붙어있습니다. 낮은 구름이 있단 소리에요. 하지만 그 위에는 쭉 벌어집니다. 상층 습기의 부족으로 눈은 오지만 이미 증발해버릴 것으로 본거죠. 하지만 오후부터는 건조구역이 점점 습윤해지면서 눈이 내릴 가능성이 있습니다. 늦은 오후 시간에는 우산을 챙겨주시는 편이 나을 수 있겠습니다. 이 눈은 대략 늦은 밤에는 비로 변해서 내릴 것으로 예상합니다. 다시 눈이 되는때는 내일 늦은 오후, 약 15-18시로 봐요.

흥미로운 점은 케이웨더-기상청 간 예보가 완전히 갈렸다는 것입니다. 왜 이런지 실황일기도를 통해 보면 현재 한반도에 영향을 주는 기압계의 샅바 싸움이 보입니다. 붉은색으로 표시한 부분이 남하중인 저기압, 푸른색으로 표시한 부분이 이동성 고기압인데요. 기상청(과 ECMWF)은 고기압이 조금 더 오래까지 세력을 유지할 것으로 예상했고, 케이웨더(와 GFS)는 저기압이 더 강해질 것으로 예상하고 있습니다. 결과적으로 주말간 비나 눈이 내리는건 맞는데, 시간의 차이가 날 수 있다는 것입니다. 점심때 햇살이 보이냐가 관건일걸로 보여요.

GEM 모델 6시간 평균 강수율 자료도 봅시다. +36시간인 10일 9시~15시 경에는 저기압의 접근이 일어납니다. 온난 전선류가 발생하며 기온이 오르고 진눈깨비가 서해안 일대에 올 가능성이 보입니다. +48시간에는 저기압이 통과, 바람 방향이 변하며 강수대가 밀려나고 눈이 내리기 시작합니다. +54시간이 서해안/전남권 강설 집중 될 예정인데요. 서해상에서 발달한 눈구름대가 충남 서해안/전남권으로 강하게 유입될 것으로 보입니다. 특히 전남 지방은 지형 영향과 저기압 후류가 결합, 단시간에 많은 적설량이 기록될 것으로 예상되는데요.

이후 밤에는 소강 상태를 보이다가 10일 0시 경부터 저기압이 내습하며 남풍이 유입, 하층 기온이 빠르게 상승합니다. 그러면서 온난한 부분이 형성되어 눈송이가 녹아 비로 변할 수 있습니다. 그 이후 내일 15~18시 경에는 저기압이 이동하며 바람 방향이 북서풍 계열로 바뀌고, 다시 찬 공기가 밀려오면서 전체적인 대기 프로파일이 영하권으로 복귀, 눈이 내리기 시작할 것으로 보입니다. 내일 새벽에 비가 내릴 때 지표면 온도가 충분히 낮다면 도로 결빙의 위험이 있긴 한데, 일단은 지상 기온이 영상이라 위험할 정도까진 아닐걸로 보여요.

문제는 그 다음입니다. 토요일인 10일 15시경 와도예상도를 보면 강한 양의 와도값을 지닌 소용돌이가 다가오는 것이 보입니다. 상층 기압골이 한반도를 통과, 하층의 공기가 위로 끌어올려지면서 오후부터 전국적으로 구름이 많아지고 눈발 혹은 비가 예상됩니다. 지금 위치해 있는 상층운들이 두꺼워지면서 비가 올 수 있겠는데요. 그러면 얼마나 올까요? 오늘도 사운딩 차트를 보겠습니다. 수도권 일대는 눈 - 그침 - 비 - 다시 눈으로 이어질 것으로 보입니다. 오늘 오후경부터 전체적으로 DGZ 인근에 습윤부가 형성, 눈 가능성이 보입니다.
