I’m re-watching the original “Tron” probably for the first time since it came out in 1982. So much rotoscoping.

The “bad guy” in the film is a big piece of software that can talk. It is going across networks and vacuuming up every bit of code and data in the world, making itself (it claims) more intelligent, and resulting in all the programmers getting fired.

That seemed kinda silly at the time.

Hallo liebe ÖH-Menschen,

da soziale Medien eine große Rolle in unserer Gesellschaft spielen, ist es schön, wenn Universitäten auf demokratischen sozialen Netzen wie Mastodon vertreten sind, statt nur auf US-Big-Tech-Plattformen, die von verhaltensauffälligen Überreichen kontrolliert werden, die sich lieber mal Therapie leisten sollten.

Die Universität Innsbruck hat schon eine eigene Instanz für Mastodon [1] und verlinkt ihr Profil auch auf ihrer Website. So einfach kann das sein!

Meine Bitte an Euch wäre, Unis zu kontaktieren, bei denen das noch nicht so ist. Insbesondere wären mir die Uni Wien und die TU Wien wichtig, weil ich dort studiert habe. Ich hatte jeweils eine Mail an beide Unis geschickt, ohne irgend eine Antwort zu bekommen. Eine Anfrage von Euch hätte natürlich viel mehr Gewicht.

Die Universität Wien hat zwar schon ein aktives Mastodon-Profil [2], schafft es aber nicht, dies auf ihrer Website [3] zu verlinken. Bei "Bleiben wir in Verbindung!" und ganz unten bei "Kontakt" sind nur andere Profile verlinkt.

Die TU Wien selbst hat kein Profil, aber bestimmte Untergruppen haben eines z.B. die HCI-Gruppe [4] und das Geo-Department [5]. Wäre schön, wenn auch die Uni selbst eines hätte (und das auch verlinken würde).

P.S. natürlich wäre es auch schön, wenn die ÖH selbst ein Mastodon-Profil hätte 😉

EDIT: some people seem really unhappy with the choice of the word 'democratic'. So maybe "social networks by the people for the people" if you think others might be misled otherwise 🤷‍♀️

사람이란 정말 다양하죠 저에게 혐오적이고 징그러운 말을 한 사람들 중에서 제일 많은 부분을 차지한 사람들이 트랜스여성들이었고, 시스남중에서 비율이 적긴 하지만 좋은 사람들이 있었구요 기독교 모태신앙이지만 화장실 같이 가준 시스여성분도 계셨구요 정체성만으로 판단하기보다는 사람 개개인으로 판단하는 것이 역시 맞다고 봅니다...

Turns out German farmers grew too much potatoes last year, so now all the extra potatoes have to be consumed (the alternative is just burning them for biodiesel).
This means free potatoes for everyone in Berlin! :boost_ok:
They accept applications for batches over 1 ton until Monday; and also on Thursday and Friday there will be multiple distribution points across Berlin for picking up smaller amounts for personal consumption, measured in kilos.
