Great URLs never change.
But usernames can.

Not including usernames in URLs means we can properly support username changes without breaking federation!

How we do this is a combination of snowflake ids (hard to guess, to prevent enumeration) and hash ids (to base encode huge ids to shorten them).

We can easily decode and encode 18 digit numbers into 10 chars.

Also, they federate ✨

Heute, ausgerechnet heute, nehmen wir Abschied von Herrn Kleinschwein.

Er kam als kleines Jungschwein im Dezember 2023 zu uns, und wuchs im Laufe zweier Jahre zu stolzen 1440 Gramm Ex-Böckchen heran.

Im Dezember 2025 hat er wegen einer chronischen Zahnfehlstellung seine Zunge verletzt und schnell dauerhaft Gewicht verloren, und wog trotz Behandlung und Zwangsfütterung mit der Spritze zuletzt knapp über 800 Gramm.

Er liegt jetzt zu schwach zum Laufen oder zum Schlucken auf dem Bauch der Meerschweinmama und wir machen gerade den Termin mit der Tier-Notfallklinik.

Möge er die große Wiese in Frieden finden.

Herr Kleinschwein, Dezember 2023.
