Hackers' Pub is a place for software engineers to share their knowledge and experience with each other. It's also an ActivityPub-enabled social network, so you can follow your favorite hackers in the fediverse and get their latest posts in your feed.
I've been approached by a few people regarding FediDB and being able to get an export of data for various purposes, without having to tax the API by crawling all 40,000 servers.
I am planning an automated export of basic details (domain, software, version, users, mau) that will be updated bi-weekly, and available for download on https://fedidb.com
The data only contains nodeinfo info, and exists from other sources, I just want to make it easier to use.

와...... Hetzner에 작은 서버 하나 만들어봤다가 놀라운 속도에 절망했다. ...... 뭐가 어떻게 된건지 모르겠지만 릴레이 중 누군가가 패킷을 75%씩 드랍하고있어 도저히 사용할 수 없었다.

Wrote a custom C++ engine to render raw WAD geometry directly to the DAC.
Pure vector output, 1D occlusion culling, no rasterization tricks.
Running on a MOTU M4.

Do you know why and how?
Great URLs never change.
But usernames can.
Not including usernames in URLs means we can properly support username changes without breaking federation!
How we do this is a combination of snowflake ids (hard to guess, to prevent enumeration) and hash ids (to base encode huge ids to shorten them).
We can easily decode and encode 18 digit numbers into 10 chars.
Also, they federate ✨

Heute, ausgerechnet heute, nehmen wir Abschied von Herrn Kleinschwein.
Er kam als kleines Jungschwein im Dezember 2023 zu uns, und wuchs im Laufe zweier Jahre zu stolzen 1440 Gramm Ex-Böckchen heran.
Im Dezember 2025 hat er wegen einer chronischen Zahnfehlstellung seine Zunge verletzt und schnell dauerhaft Gewicht verloren, und wog trotz Behandlung und Zwangsfütterung mit der Spritze zuletzt knapp über 800 Gramm.
Er liegt jetzt zu schwach zum Laufen oder zum Schlucken auf dem Bauch der Meerschweinmama und wir machen gerade den Termin mit der Tier-Notfallklinik.
Möge er die große Wiese in Frieden finden.

We use snowflake ids, then hashids in permalinks that expand. It's beautifully simple, yet clever.
