If you ever wanted to contribute to a compiler, but thought it was too daunting a task, improving diagnostics is an excellent way of get my started. It can involve checking things from multiple stages, but the objective is small and targeted, with a clear scope, and it is high visibility because the impact of better errors is clear to most. So many projects could do with a little bit of extra attention on this front.

While I like this general description of "Ptolemaic code"¹ and understand the appeal, I can't read it without immediately flashing to the excellent series "The Great Ptolemaic Smackdown", which covers how the shift from heliocentrism to geocentrism was nowhere near as neat and simple as the story is told today. Four-year-old Fatima al-Zahra has marked her birthday – the first she has spent blind in one eye after being wounded in the crossfire between SDF fighters and the Syrian army.

사실 리눅스 및 오픈소스 생태계는 굉장히 영어일극체제임. 다른 라틴문자 기반 언어판은 모르겠는데 CJK언어는 문자 입력기가 기본으로 깔려나와서 맥이나 윈도처럼 특별한 조치 없이 바로 입력할 수 있는 경우가 없음. 하모니카가 시도했던 거 같은데 안 쓴지 오래되어서 모르겠고. 문제는 리눅스 데스크탑 관점에선 이게 좀 부차적인 문제라는 것이지. 그냥 입력기 깔면 되고 입력기는 저장소에 있거든. 꼬우면 한국어판을 별도로 관리해서 만들어야겠지. 이러면 또 자원봉사냐 기업화냐의 문제가 생기고. 그러기엔 상품으로서의 한국어 리눅스가 쓸만한가?
