We experienced an outage with https://holos.social. The issue was not directly related to the relay server, but rather to our translation service integration with Fedilab. We have taken appropriate measures to prevent this from happening again.
Remember: when you break a mug, it's the universe telling you, you should get another one.

I'll be presenting my work on automating BGP peerings in the dn42 environment on Saturday, January 31st, 18:40-19:00 at Université Libre de Bruxelles, room H.1302. The session will also be streamed online.
dn42 is a community-driven overlay network that provides a real-world testbed for experimenting with Internet protocols like BGP, IPv4/v6, DNS and much more. I'll share how I built an automatic peering service that's helped my network (AS4242420263) reach rank #20 of all dn42 networks.

Blocking on Bluesky is NOT PRIVATE: it's very easy to see who is blocking any account by visiting sites that list that information.

The #forkiverse seems like a good model for expanding the fediverse: instances based on existing audiences.
Hear me out. Fanbases have an automatic sense of community. They are more likely to be politically/culturally similar. Users already like the admin (e.g. the podcast host). The admin can’t be a tyrant, because the users are also their audience.
And there’s that last hard-to-describe ingredient. That sense of energy and momentum. “Hey, come join, we’re starting something together!”

World's first legally binding treaty to protect #oceans and marine life takes effect
The High Seas Treaty or Biodiversity Beyond National Jurisdictions (BBNJ) Agreement, will govern about two-thirds of the planet's oceans including vast areas beyond any country's borders.
But how those protected areas will actually be monitored and enforced is undecided and will pose a challenge.
Australia, New Zealand, the United States, and the United Kingdom remain as signatories and have yet to ratify it.
