New from 404 Media: ICE's facial recognition app, which the agency is using to decide who to detain and deport, misidentified a woman. Twice.

ICE says results of the app are definitive and override a birth certificate; obviously this case shows the app is inaccurate

In testimony from a CBP official obtained by 404 Media, the official described how Mobile Fortify returned two different names after scanning a woman's face during an immigration raid. ICE has said the app's results are a “definitive” determination of someone's immigration status.

Horizon EDA first impressions:

  • (+) it works!
  • (+) it's documented!
  • (-) it uses those awful GTK3 UI idioms. please no
  • (+) it's easy enough to do some very trivial stuff in schematic and layout while barely looking at documentation
  • (+) it's not aggressively hostile to my muscle memory
  • (+) the "pool" (library) feature seems really well thought out and implemented at a first glance
  • (-) there are barely any parts. the default pool doesn't even include a quad SPI flash!! that's such a completely basic thing

ADHD + writing rant

Sometimes I wish I had an assistant whom I could unload all my ADHD thoughts on, and they would write them down in a condensed, ordered way.

Like this presentation that I've already given tens of times in my head, but it needs to be turned into slides and the event organizer wants them. Worse, because I would rather not have any slides at all for this story.

Same with blog articles and other data: there is a wealth of information and prose in my brain, but I can seldom commit them to paper.

(I know someone's gonna suggest ChatGPT next: no need.)

Zohran is expanding the number of public toilets in NYC and improving how the existing ones are cleaned and maintained.

If this is a big enough initiative it will have a huge impact on quality of life for new yorkers. I don't know if it is big enough. Nonetheless *this* is the way to address the things that make people feel like the city is a dump. It's also just... civilized. IDK. How do you call it a city and you have no bathrooms?
