日本熊本縣阿蘇火山中岳一帶周二（20日）發生觀光直升機墜毀事故。一架載有3人的觀光直升機於中午前在阿蘇中岳火口附近失去聯絡，警方、消防及自衛隊展開大規模搜索，至下午4時許在火口內斜面發現機體部分，經核對機體編號及特徵後，確認為失蹤直升機。機上3人包括一名60多歲男性機師及兩名台灣旅客，至今安危未明。
據警方及消防指出，事發於上午11時許，消防部門接獲一部智能手機的「自動衝擊通報」，顯示有人在阿蘇中岳火口附近的直升機上，其智能電話感應到撞擊並自動發出通報，當局隨即展開搜救。
運航公司表示，涉事直升機於上午11時由阿蘇市觀光設施「阿蘇カドリー・ドミニオン」起飛，原定飛往阿蘇中岳火口附近，並於約10分鐘後折返；惟到達預定返回時間後，直升機仍未回航，運航公司接獲緊急信號後一度以另一架直升機前往搜索，但未能尋獲，且因天氣轉差需折返，其後由警方、消防及自衛隊接手搜救行動。
至下午4時左右，參與搜索的直升機在火口附近發現疑似機體後方部分，消防人員其後表示已從可目視位置確認火口壁上有機體部分，返回分享資訊並協調後續救援。警方進一步核對機體編號及外觀特徵後，確認所尋獲的殘骸屬失蹤的遊覽直升機。
機上乘客包括一名60多歲男性機師，以及兩名來自台灣的觀光客，分別為41歲男子及36歲女子，共3人。運航公司透露，事發前的例行檢查並未發現機件異常，涉事機師亦有逾10年駕駛經驗，事前未有出現身體不適。
該運航公司於2024年5月亦曾在阿蘇地區發生遊覽直升機緊急降落事故，當時造成3人重傷。警方表示，現階段仍未能確認失聯直升機上3人的狀況，將繼續搜索並調查事故原因。
