I'm sorry to see obituaries for Dr. Gladys West this morning: thezebra.org/2026/01/18/dr-gla

She was brilliant and did a lot of incredibly important scientific work, a lot of which was hidden/uncredited early on, because she was a mathematician in a time when "computer" was a job description.

I currently have an idea for a project buzzing around in my head, which I already know is FAR TOO BIG for me to tackle on my own. I'm wondering whether there might be (EU) funding available for it and whether anyone would even need it... 🤔

My phone's autocorrect dictionary is completely full of typos I make so often that it's learned them as words, rendering it almost entirely useless. I miss phones having actual keyboards (yes, I know some still exist, but generally don't have the same level of support as flagship phones that are glass rectangles that you interact with by using your largest fingers to tap tiny textureless rectangles).
