My personal websites are always static if I can help it, but recently I've been motivated to go all the way back to no-CSS no-JS old school HTML (with a couple newer tags like <details> sprinkled in). Not because the new stuff is bad, but because I don't need it for what I'm doing and I don't want to force other people to download stuff I'm not even using myself.

Great blog post by @mahryekuhMarijke Luttekes on the discussion of lightweight websites.

I've been meaning to write about how I think big events like conferences should have a static site version of their website available in addition to any kind of dynamic one.

Internet on expo halls and other large venues is usually pretty bad when there are hundreds or thousands of people and being able to get the important info on a spotty wifi from a static site is quality of life improvement.

This Friday folks in Minnesota, supported by labor unions, Indivisible, and others are planning a walkout. I would like to create an online site where we could collect and display messages of support. Does anybody here have technical skills to set up collection and generate display? The VGA output works, but I need to find a PS/2 keyboard now. (Currently doing input over serial and output via the VGA).

In a similar vein, here's a photo of Alamogordo district 3 city commissioner, Warren Robinson speaking before the start of the MLK march. He pointed out that in the past such marches were in fear of the police, but that today they were protecting the march. Various marchers waved and said hello to the police arrayed along the march route. Some struck up conversations.

At the end of the march folks entered the historic Dudley school, where various meetings took place...formal and informal.
