This. EXACTLY this.
“Hit dogs holler,” “hit a nerve” whatever the kids call it nowadays.

People who pop up centering themselves in the middle of some crisis (that their parents and best friends created) yelling “BUT WAIT NOT MEEE” are definitely telling on themselves in several ways.

I am convinced that some corp phone trees intentionally degrade the phone call audio in order to limit success rates.

Called Blue Shield, got transferred to their prescription department. The hold music audio is full of static and analog audio transmission issues. They answer, 5 seconds into them speaking which I can barely hear, it cuts out and drops me back onto the main phone tree. I manage to get back to customer service, who transfers me to pharmacy claims dept, and 15 seconds later the call terminates.

RE: mastodon.social/@heidilifeldma

I need people outside to understand - the people being ruffed up aren't violent narco terrorists. These aren't dangerous, paid political agitators. The camo cosplayers are deeply disturbed bullies told they have impunity, getting their rocks off on anyone who dare tells them "no".

I had a job when I was in HS working in an office of a importer and exporter of cigars and the guy who ran the company thought I was a computer genius with rare super powers because I knew how to set up a mail merge in word and excel to make his invoices and letters for his customers.

It was a little tricky back then. But really just read the directions and follow them. I thought "some day computers will be so easy to use everyone will be able to do this"

Yeah. That didn't happen.

Yesterday, I interviewed a tech guy who told me something too important for me to wait until the podcast comes out for you to hear it:

Many free AI detectors have especially high false positive rates because they make money selling software that "humanizes" writing. 1/2

They tell students papers sound like AI — even when they're the students' own writing — so the company can scare them and sell them a product.

This goes beyond the general problem that even good AI detectors aren't perfect and shouldn't be the sole reason to accuse someone of writing with AI.
