This was extremely interesting read for many reasons.

What we're building here creates some really hard problems to solve indeed.

The year is 2026, and I still run into issues with Ruby versions.

Is there a good consensus on how to keep Ruby and Gem versions straight and not breaking, for example across several different repos with jekyll blogs in them?

Despite Trump's so-called peace plan, which faces daily Israeli violations and a sustained blockade in Gaza, Israel aims to restrict Palestinian entry through the Rafah border crossing to ensure more people leave than return. According to Reuters, Israel seeks to "encourage Palestinians to emigrate from Gaza," while sources report it also plans to establish a military checkpoint inside Gaza to screen all movement. The Rafah crossing, the only exit for over two million Gazans, is set to open next week under a U.S.-backed transitional Palestinian committee. However, Israel intends to limit entries and impose checks, heightening fears of expulsion or permanent displacement under the guise of border management. These intentions were echoed publicly by Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich last week, who demanded the war resume and called for Palestinians in Gaza to be ethnically cleansed "through Egypt, whether they like it or not."

By the way this vulnerability is exactly why Dropserver apps run in a sandbox by default, and why I'm focusing on making it easy to have a useful DS install that isn't visible to the public internet (like using Tailscale). I'm also thinking of more ways of making small projects useful and safe to have around the net without having to keep up with every vuln all the time.

With people vibe-coding their personal apps you just know this kind of thing is going to happen over and over again. How to run these apps safely is going to be the question.

Yesterday, agents rear-ended a car being driven by a 16-year-old, with her 15-year-old brother in the passenger seat.

Instead of calling a guardian, agents photographed the 15-year-old … and then took him.

The 16-year-old showed agents her U.S. passport but that did not matter, they still handcuffed her and threw her into their unmarked car.

Both minors.
Both unaccompanied.

Ghostty has a really well-balanced AI usage policy. It doesn't ban AI tools outright, but it sets clear boundaries to prevent the common problems we're seeing in open source contributions these days.

What stands out is that it's not about being anti-AI. The policy explicitly says the maintainers use AI themselves. The rules are there because too many people treat AI as a magic button that lets them contribute without actually understanding or testing what they're submitting. The requirement that AI-generated PRs must be for accepted issues only, fully tested by humans, and properly disclosed feels like basic respect for maintainers' time.

I'm thinking of adopting something similar for my projects, even though they're not at Ghostty's scale yet. Better to set expectations early.
