Python Tip #26 (of 365):

When opening a file, use a "with" block... especially for writing!

Using a "with" block to open a file will close it automatically when the "with" block exits: https://pym.dev/creating-and-writing-file-python/

So this:

with open("example.txt", mode="wt") as file:
file.write("An example file\n")

Is pretty much the same as this:

file = open("example.txt", mode="wt")
try:
file.write("An example file\n")
finally:
file.close()

i find it kind of funny that the poem most distributed on computers is from nearly 1000 years ago

(two of the allowed html counter styles are "hiragana-iroha" and "katakana-iroha". "iroha" refers to a poem that includes every japanese kana precisely once. unicode's kana block isn't in iroha oder, so every web browser has to include two copies of the poem.)

The cybercriminals in control of Kimwolf -- a disruptive botnet that has infected more than 2 million devices -- recently shared a screenshot indicating they'd compromised the control panel for Badbox 2.0, a vast China-based botnet powered by malicious software that comes pre-installed on many Android TV streaming boxes. Both the FBI and Google say they are hunting for the people behind Badbox 2.0, and thanks to bragging by the Kimwolf botmasters we may now have a much clearer idea about that.

I have been saying that many of the complaints with AI are "technical problems." Someday we'll create AI that uses less energy, is more accurate, etc.

The fundamental problems we need to focus on fixing - if even possible - are the non-technical problems. Consensual data training, compensating creators, etc. These are are harder issues to tackle that will outlive the "technical problems" and really put inequality into hyperspace if left unresolved.
