All over the world, politicians are being forced by their communities to address the evils of data centers

Resistance to data centers fuels flood of Georgia bills targeting the industry

Georgia legislators have proposed seven bills regulating data centers by eliminating tax breaks, prohibiting costs from being passed on to residential electricity customers, or temporarily barring their construction entirely.

This 30/01 we're leaving Spotify, join the

Why? 1. Spotify owner investing in the military and the biz of genocide, 2. Spotify hardly pays anything to the artists (only to the famous ones), 3. Spotify uses AI generated music to avoid paying artists

Good morning! Today we’re excited to introduce a new thing we’ve been working on for years. This. Is Liquid Values. See how it fluidly moves between one set of deep convictions to another while maintaining a consistency of presentation and verbiage? Liquid Values is an industry first that can support both fighting democratic governments tooth and nail while cowtowing to, working with, and supporting autocracies. All this while staying true to our core: shareholder value.
We think you’ll love it.

RE: mastodon.thenewoil.org/@thenew

Next up will be a VPN ban. Many tech-y people will see that and think “lol yeah well that’s not going to stop *me* from using a VPN”

A VPN ban isn’t really meant stop you from using one. It means when they catch you doing so, they’ll use the fact you’re using this harmless technology itself as a *pretense* to lock you up without needing to do any “hard work” (i.e. an investigator’s job) like actually confirming whether you committed a real crime.

Don’t think you won’t be impacted just because you know how to outsmart an ISP filter! This is not a plan to protect children or stop you from consuming adult media. It is a ploy to eventually eliminate ALL freedom of expression and free access to information in the UK.

And the same goes for Chat Control and encrypted messengers, btw

my thoughts are organized using a practical, professional scheme, within one standard deviation of the mean. so, as one would put it, not too messy and not too rigid. I am easily able to adapt to new whims both external and internal to myself. I'm ready for my close-up now. I would recommend giving me a purple background and framing my cheekbones in the "chiaroscuro" style. thanks!! yay!!

animals enjoy my company, and I'm never without wheat. here, take some. *I hand you a scoop of grain from my apron pocket* there you are—but remember, nothing in life is free. you owe me something in return. I would like a binary-compatible drop-in replacement for libncurses written in rust. no worries, I can wait. you can write it through the winter, subsisting on the debt I have just loaned you. they call this leverage, in the finance world. I have many friends in that industry—bulls and bears, mostly.

popped into LinkedIn real quick before bed. Recommended post AI blah blah imagine the one true programming made for AI yada yada closes with "Less learning, more doing."

What kind of a fucking motto is that?

Four words describing how we got into this mess in the first place.

Brought to you by the same innovative mindset that thinks targeted advertising means "sell you four more stoves."

Due to a recent influx of what looked like to be more or less fully AI generated PRs, I've now thrown an AGENTS.md into OctoPrint's repo that hopefully makes clear to agents (and through that, their users) that this is NOT something wanted by the project.

Heavily based on one I ironically discovered in llama.cpp's repo.

I'm open to AI assistance where it makes sense, but I put the foot down on drive-by slop that people don't even understand themselves, and any generated documentation.

Why the ban on generated documentation? Because reading it you just KNOW that no human wrote it. And that feels disrespectful to my users. I wouldn't want to read documentation I don't know I can't trust because it's obviously generated by some LLM, I certainly don't want to make my users have to worry about that.

Any errors in OctoPrint's documentation should be the fault of a human ;)
