What is Hackers' Pub?

Hackers' Pub is a place for software engineers to share their knowledge and experience with each other. It's also an ActivityPub-enabled social network, so you can follow your favorite hackers in the fediverse and get their latest posts in your feed.

@rick.oO(^ ^)Oo. You’re not wrong. And I like AI dev tools, but you’re not wrong at all. The problem is, the tools do exist. So how do we make the experience better for maintainers who are getting more friction because of PRs or issues (often submitted in good faith) that can be generated more quickly by folks not familiar with the social norms around a project.

From a recent post looking for PhD theses databases across Europe, I got lots of boosts (thanks) but only returns from very few European countries. So I wonder : how many active scientists (lets say having published one peer-reviewed paper in the last five years) are on mastodon from the different EU countries ?
Pools only have 10 choices, so more countries are in the next post 🙂
please boost mainly on servers with a science theme
And if I have missed any hashtags that are followed by many scientists, please add

Some nice themes running through the Devroom at : storytelling from different national and international contexts (Italy, Netherlands, Germany, Europe); new apps and ideas (badgefed, splinter, FASPs, Spritely); building infrastructure and foundational tech (Bonfire, Fedify, Emissary). This is really great momentum! The speaker list today has been wonderful.

@andypiper oh I wish I was able to come and talk about the history of VKontakte and how that led to me starting Smithereen. Russia is one of the few countries where Meta genuinely failed to take over the majority of social media usage, and VK took a lot longer to become terminally enshittified.

That and I'd also talk about how I'm extending ActivityPub too much. And that I have some ideas about decentralized global search.

Maybe next year...
