This is *Code Dependent - Living in the Shadow of AI* by Madhumita Murgia.
The book takes a critical look at Artificial Intelligence, taking journalistic deep dives into different aspects of AI in each chapter. What surprised me: how much human labor is behind AI. What I liked: the human centric and storytelling approach, that made it an easy read for someone like me, who usually prefers fiction. 💜 I also appreciated the colour scheme of the cover.

원래 사는게 지옥같으면 지옥이 좀 살만해 보이는 법이다. 그래서 그게 지옥인 줄 알면서도 선택할 수 밖에 없는 사람들이 있다. 몸이 박살날 걸 알면서도 그저 최저 시급을 맞춰준다는 이유 하나 때문에 C사 물류창고 파트타임일을 새벽부터 나가는 사람들같은. 작가라고 하여 다를게 없다. 만약 저 조건이 매력적으로 느껴졌다면 부디 자책하거나 자괴하지 않기를 바란다. 그건 그만큼 당신의 삶이 잔인하다는 뜻이니까. 피와 같은 글을 시간단위로 뽑아서 계산해야 할만큼 절박하단 뜻이니까.

과거의 작가들은 굶어죽지 않기 위해 졸부, 정치인의 고스트 라이터가 되어야 했다면 지금의 작가들은 굶어죽지 않기 위해 LLM의 데이터 베이스가 될 글을 써야한다. 어느쪽이 더 좋은지 묻는 것은 똥맛 카레가 낫냐, 카레맛 똥이 낫냐 묻는 것과 같은 것일텐데, 여기에 굳이 말을 얹자면 창작조차 시급으로 계산하려는 그 창의력에 무릎뼈가 나갈 정도로 탁 치고 웃었다 정도로 갈음하겠다. 이렇게 큰 웃음을 주는 창의력이 있는데 왜 굳이 시급 40달러에 사람을 모으겠다는 건지 이해가 안되는건 덤이고 말이다.
