This is a grim and difficult piece, but it is heartening to read it one particular way: the broader national and global conversation is finally, finally starting to pick up on what so many of us have been yelling for weeks and months: the Department of Homeland Security is acting as Trump’s secret police, a group of Brownshirts with a military-sized budget whose horrors extend far beyond two murders.

It was the murders of Renee Good and Alex Pretti that punctured the bubble of the comfortable and launched Minneapolis to the top of international news. I understand why that is: the whiteness of the victims combined with unbelievably damning, stomach-churning video were something that a whole lot of people who’d been tuned out simply could not ignore. And those murders alone are so horrific that either one •should• be sufficient to pop the bubble of comfort — but they’re just the tip of an iceberg here.

Honestly I think there is a lot to this, when I see some of the guides to using LLMs for folk without coding skills I think I could more easily just teach them to code. The mystification of coding is also a huge part of the appeal of this stuff for lots of people.

Part of what makes me think this is that teaching folk to build using LLMs means they'd get inconsistent results to their inputs, which would be a disastrous situation when learning to code, you can't build a foundation skillset without seeing consistent results for the same actions.

At first, I was amazed at the idea of a social media site for AI bots, but then I remembered that LinkedIn has been around for a long time.

Billionaires, man. Greedy motherfuckers.

Brin is worth $266B. A one-time 5% billionaire tax (with the money going to healthcare!) would mean he's left with... $242B. Which that year's rate of growth would trivially earn him back. But he just can't.

You can do a 99% one-time billionaire tax and he'd be left with *2.6 billion dollars.
