this is a serious issue Evan and dismissing it with replies like this really doesn’t help anything. Its fine to not like the solution of using a custom uri scheme but currently there is not an easy way to interact with a remote object from your home server, and this is one solution to that issue that some people are already familiar with.

@wakest For good or ill, ActivityPub objects are supposed to use HTTPS URIs. It's in the spec: "Publicly facing content SHOULD use HTTPS URIs."

The discovery document shows a few good ways to discover if an HTML page, like a page loaded in a browser, represents an ActivityPub object.

One of the reasons I'm working on ActivityPub API adoption is to make this use case easier. You can see an explanation here:

I just have to say, compared to 5 yrs ago when I first joined the Fediverse, there is so much creativity and expression on here now, it is a pleasure to watch this space bloom. All the ideas and innovation, the artistic interpretation, the science and education, and what’s my favorite part, people *helping* and *supporting* each other, especially in these challenging times.

You help redeem my faith in humankind.

Thank you all for being there.

Keep being you.

Keep sharing.

Even if nobody responds, someone out there appreciates what you post, even if they scroll past. (I need to remember my own words, here).

Thank you all, wherever you are.

"Trans women have no advantage in women's sports, studies confirm this result"

A bunch of weird people: "nuh uh, science says otherwise!"

What do these tools think a "study" is and what do they think "science" is.

Hey Punkstodon.de! Thanks for having me!

I'm a vegan dude that grew up in a hardcore punk scene in the south of Brazil. I'm a visual artist and burned out animator, trying to figure out what my next thing will be (I need to change a few things or I'll spontaneously combust). I'm also a linux and foss nerd.

Here goes a band from around these parts of the world:

The man from Laser Quest didn't use the word shoot when he explained the rules. I knew I'd have terrible aim so didn't even try and just used the rifle like a cudgel. He said that I was the most violent girl he'd ever seen. Three boys got bloody noses and I broke one's wrist.

Found a gem for YouTube (V3 extension: addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firef) — which brings the old interface (from the start of XXI century) back. It is more clean, if it is even possible to say "clean" about YouTube interface, and also it is faster as hell than the "modern" one.

On the my box (Thinkpad X220 with i7, 16 Gb of RAM) the usual YouTube lags as hell, even while I'm scrolling. The old interface — works almost instantly, lol.

YouTube with old interface from 2013 (provided by V3 extension). There is a main page on the screenshot.YouTube with old interface from 2013 (provided by V3 extension). There is a page with running video on the screenshot.
