Me, a fool, who knows that I often just keep going: "I will do a tiny little bit of snow shoveling as a practical fit check of one type of these new N95 masks."

Also it's not ideal weather for such a fit check, since it's above freezing and my glasses don't fog as readily in warm temperatures. I don't often say "I wish it was colder" but this time is one of them, it would have been a better check in say -5 C. Plus I probably wouldn't have sweated as much.

With discover.holos.social we may have highlighted that many Fediverse users don't pay attention to their default settings. We built a fully respectful search engine that only relies on , with instant deletion, updates, and indexing only consenting users. We will likely shut down the service, but the source code will remain available as we believe the approach is ethical. That same indexable setting already lets Google index your posts and keep them cached long after deletion.

“Mistreatment of children during a militarized police action that involved armored vehicles and flashbang grenades has sparked fresh questions about tactics being employed nationwide in the name of the Trump administration's wave of immigration sweeps.… [The ACLU has] filed a federal civil rights lawsuit highlighting the mistreatment of families attending the weekend recreation event at La Catedral Arena, many of whom were American citizens of Hispanic descent.” cbsnews.com/news/feds-zip-tied

In November 2025, we had the privilege of supporting and participating in Semana de la Cultura Libre in Montevideo, Uruguay: a week-long celebration of open culture organized by CC Uruguay. The week offered a powerful reminder that free culture is not an abstract idea but a living practice shaped by local communities, histories, and needs.

Read our full recap on the event and some of our biggest takeaways in our new blog post!

i've been having occasional issues where a 1440p youtube video will buffer for ten or so seconds, then resume normally. no clue why, my internet's more than fast enough.

but it reminded me of a time where my internet very much wasn't fast enough. we used to have ADSL, and we'd get maybe 1.5mbps if we were lucky. i could watch 360p youtube videos with no buffering, or 480p if i paused the video for a few minutes to get it to preload far enough (back when that was a thing). sometimes i'd treat myself and wait five minutes to watch a ninety second video in glorious 720p.

for whatever reason -- maybe the app only supported lower bitrate streams, maybe it had a better wifi chip than my phone or laptop -- i could watch 480p without buffering or preloading specifically on my PS vita. other devices couldn't do it.

so i ended up watching a lot of youtube on that beautiful 544p OLED display.
