Saw someone's toot about trying to learn how to #drive a geared car (or drive stick, as they say in USA). And here I am driving a geared car, and hating it, being anxious all the time about missing gear changes and driving in wrong gear. I'd love to not drive stick, but I can't buy a new car right now.

For years, companies have been turning developers into assembly line workers, stripping away required skills, breaking work into small, context-free tickets anyone can pick up.

AI is just the next step on that path. Developers are replaceable, there is nothing that says they all have to be humans, is there?

The landscape of 2026 gives multiple paths forward. Same starting point, different choices, different outcomes.

I feel happy when I find people who are/were programmers and also write/wrote fiction #books. Like here's a person who has mastered the languages of both the natural and machine world. It give me hope for my own creative endeavors beyond #programming.

Moved into a new office. Now I have to reacquaint myself with all the new doors by remembering which ones to push and which ones to pull. Sigh.
