There's a very realistic future where small towns scattered all around the USA (and other places, but there's gonna be a shit ton of it here) will find themselves stuck with half built or buit-but-empty datacenters when this bubble bursts.
I think those cities should seize them from the bankrupt shell companies that will eventually own them on paper, and operate them as public utilities. Ideally, as part of or alongside public broadband utilities.

『리갈 던전』은 경찰관이 되어 수사서류를 기반으로 조서를 작성해 검찰에 보내고, 그 과정에서 업무 평가를 받고, 하나의 이야기를 접하게 되는 게임입니다. 인디 개발자 소미의 작품으로 잘 알려져 있지요.
『Papers, Please』와 같이 직업인으로서 자신의 판단으로 일을 수행하면서, 자신의 삶과 안전, 종종 그 반대편에 서는 옳음과 정의에 대해 고민하게 되는 감각을 골자로 하여, 게임플레이는 문서를 기반으로 무슨 일이 일어났는지를 파악하는 플레이로는 『Analogue: A Hate Story』보다는 나중에 나오고, 『The Roottrees are Dead』보다는 먼저 나온 게임이지요.
길지 않은 게임은 웬만하면 끝까지 플레이하고 올리려고 하는데, 이 게임은 처음 몇 사건을 처리하고 나서 너무 괴로워서 던지게 되었습니다. 플레이어로서의 제가 처한 상황이 괴롭기도 했지만, 이 게임이 제가 살고 있는 사회를 가리키기 때문에 괴로웠습니다. 직업에 충실하자면 직관적인 정의에 부딪히게 되고, 내가 옳다고 생각하는 대로 고르면 페널티를 받는 건 그래도 익숙해질 수 있는 범주에 있는데, 동료 경찰과의 대화라는 인터페이스가 제게는 너무 삼키키 어려운 것이었습니다.
사실 오래 전에 샀고, 그 때에도 비슷한 부담을 예상하고 켜지 않은 채 라이브러리에서 방치했던 게임이었습니다. 그래도 현실과 게임이 너무 달라지기 전에 좀 플레이해봐야겠다고 생각해서 켠 게임인데, 여전히 현실 생각이 나서 플레이하기가 고통스럽습니다. 뭐 저도 '고구마' 못 먹는 현대 미디어 소비자라는 걸 절감합니다.

이건 멈추지도 사라지지도 않고 창문을 꽁꽁 싸매고 막는다고 하여 막을 수도 없다. 위층 아래층 바람이 흐르는 곳은 어디라도 퍼져 창문을 뚫고 들어오니, 코가 매캐하지 않을 재간이 없다. 연휴는 항상 그렇다. 담배 연기와의 고통어린 만남이다. 오늘도 미세먼지가 걷혔다 하여 환기차 창을 열었더니 어김없이 들어와 목을 맵게 한다. 음력의 마지막 날이라 그런지 을사년을 이렇게 보낼수는 없다는 것인지 정말 맹렬하고 맹렬하게 타올라 사람을 괴롭힌다. 아무튼 연휴에 집에 있으면 이놈의 담배연기가 가장 힘들다.
연휴에 집에 있으면 가장 힘든게 창문 밖에서 올라오고 내려오는 담배연기다. 전에 말한 적이 있지만 내가 사는 아파트는 복도형이고, 내 방은 복도를 향하는 쪽으로 창문이 있다. 담배를 피는 이들은 너나 할 것없이 복도에 나와서 피우곤 하는데, 재며, 꽁초며 하는 걸 자연스럽게 복도난간 밖으로 던져버려 가끔 밤에 그 모습을 보고 있노라면 작은 별동별이 갈곳을 잃고 떨어지다 사라지는 느낌을 주기도 한다. 그 별똥별이 차에 떨어져 누런 화상을 입히는 바람에 한 때 크게 화가 나기도 했었지만, 그래도 역시 최악은 담배연기겠다.
