Ok, the US press pays more attention to sensational causes of death than the prevalent causes of death in the US.

However, if the prevalence statistics were presented as __age weighted__ then the resulting graphic would prob look somewhat closer the reportage one.

I am LOVING seeing so many AI projects being paused or binned.

There’s one silver lining in the mass layoffs, they can’t lay off their absurd investment in power, cooling, and hardware. Loss adjusters and liquidators are rubbing their hands with glee.

Also, many silicon spinners are demanding 5 year agreements on production. It’s go big or go home time, and there will be some casualties.

One org I reluctantly work with pivoted their entire operating model to AI and agents, and they royally screwed their staff over.

They’re now hiring them as consultants at twice their original salary as everything fell on it’s arse, and who knew that go to market suits with a prompt can’t keep infrastructure or business running. Hilariously I know one engineer negotiated a one-sided 12 month contract notice period.

These people are going to get desperate, fast. Fetch the s’mores and let em roast.

Shit like this is why I started my villain arc. This right here. Tummy hurt one day and I became evil. I hate having flesh.

당연히 밀어버리고 초고층 건물 지으려는 움직임이 있었는데, 우크라이나 전쟁 등으로 건설 비용이 대충 2~3배 올라서 건설회사가 손 떼고 나갔다고.

우리가 조선족에 잘 했으면 현재보다 노동력 유입이 나았을거람 이야기가 있던데.. 그게 실질적으로 무리인게 중국 임금이 올라서(...) 조선족은 결국 다국어를 할 수 있는 인력인데 중국 산업 수준이 오르면.. 힘들게 왜 한국에서 저임금 노동자를 해요.. 열심히 공부해서 미효요 들어가서 한국 로컬담당 관리직 되지... 사실 중국내 조선족도 저출산 지역이고... 동남아 노동자도 결국 동남아시아 산업구조가 고도화되고 임금이 오르면.. 한국 안 오게되는.. 무한이 공급되는 저임금 노동자란건 없죠...

I think the #ActivityPub client-to-server API is extremely important and underrated. I’m glad to see the SWF and W3C group prioritizing it, because I think it has the potential to fix something that’s kind of broken on the #Fediverse: too many accounts, on too many platforms that really ought to be clients.

Here’s the rub, though: you need the big players in the space to support it. Mastodon needs to support it. Pixelfed and PeerTube need to support it.

So, how do you get the big existing projects to all implement it? How do you justify it?

in my quest for a lightweight markup language i found https://www.gingerbill.org/article/2026/01/19/two-families-of-markup-languages/ which argues that everything is either sgml or tex. looking at the example, i think i might actually want to consider a tex derivative instead of an sgml derivative... but not latex, because i don't want to do typesetting, i want semantics. if the main thing is delineation of nodes by {} instead of <></> then that gets closer to the heart of what i need i guess
