Creative usernames and Spotify account hijacking | Spotify Engineering

Spotify supports unicode usernames which we are a bit proud of (not many services allow you to have ☃, the unicode snowman, as a username). However, it has also been a reliable source of pain over the years. This is the story of one time when it bit us pretty badly and how we spent Easter dealing with it.

「はい」と「いいえ」の各言語での長さを調べてた

・中国語(是/不是)、チベット語(རེད/མ་རེད)、カレン語(မ့ၢ်/တမ့ၢ်ဘၣ်)あたりは、「はい」に否定のマーカーをつけて表すので必然的に「いいえ」が長くなる

・アイルランド語には「はい/いいえ」がなく、質問を繰り返す
例) An dtuigeann tú? (Do you understand?)
はい: Tuigim. (理解を意味するtuigを元に自分を主語にしたもの)
いいえ: Ní thuigim. (tuigを現在形のtuigimにして否定をつけたもの)
作り方的に必ず否定が長くなる

・フィンランド語は(これに限らずウラル語族によくあるやり方で、)「はい」には肯定詞(Kyllä)があるが、「いいえ」は否定動詞を用いるため、主語によって長さが変わる
否定動詞の原型はEiで、一人称ならEn、二人称ならEt、三人称ならEi、複数ならEmme、Ette、Eivät

분리수거하다 보면 항상 느끼는 건데, 한국 플라스틱 보틀링 하는 작자들은 제대로 뜯어지는 라벨링을 만들 줄 모르는 건가 뜯어지던 말던 상관 없이 대충 그냥 만들고 입 씻고 있는 건가. 절취선이 만들어져있건 말건 제대로 뜯어지지도 않는 라벨이 태반이다. 열수축형이면 한 백의 99는 제대로 안 된다. 적용해보고 이게 제대로 동작하는지 시험이나 해 보는지.

I’m not “in denial” about AI. I see it where I work, I hear about it from my coworkers who use it, the extra work it causes and the problems they run into, the wrong assumptions it makes.

I see the impacts on communities, the environment, politics, and artists.

I see the impending bubble burst and economic collapse.

I see just recently how an AI system erroneously took down AWS to rebuild the environment. I see how an AI output insults about human programmers. I see how it’s being used to generate images of assault, including against children.

Any time saved in using it is blood money.

I have this habit of approaching relationships from this perspective of spending a lot of emotional energy proving to someone that I am worth being with. And it keeps up being something that makes me feel worse about myself.

Honestly, I’m feeling kind of done with this. Like fuck dating. I pour so much emotional energy into these potential relationships only to have women tell me I’m worth less than the words in a horoscope app? What’s the fucking point?

today's project for : reworking the memory-25x applet

this is a very old applet, one of the first introduced. it works mostly fine, but it was designed and implemented before I really knew how to make good applet UIs, and long before I added QSPI support, so it's not using all of the available bandwidth & it requires specifying a bunch of geometry parameters by hand even when it is trivially extracted from the flash itself

I am planning to redesign the Flash command engine to support not just 1-1-1 (normal SPI) commands, but every mode including 1-1-2 and 1-1-4 (dual/quad data) and 1-2-2 and 1-4-4 (dual/quad address and data). to do this I will implement an abstraction for a (Q)SPI command set, which can then be extended and specialized by an individual flash

this will also handle devices like Winbond's and Micron's QSPI NAND devices (W25N series and MT29F series, respectively).
