Da wäre ja vielleicht noch viel mehr möglich: von der Weigerung, menschheitsschädliche Politikys um den Erdball zu befördern, bis zur Weigerung, Sauftouris mal eben nach Malle zu bringen. From a U.S. legal point of view, it was all very strange. I’ve had different experiences with different municipalities and authorities over the years. Many take an approach similar to the one you describe in Germany.
There is something incredibly fun about just grabbing a piece of cardboard and a bunch of colours I like right now, and do whatever~.
