One of the best things I did when I got to SF was open a mailbox at a local business near me. They specialize in paperwork and mail stuff. Not only does this help me with package theft (I ship all high value goods there); when I don’t have the spoons to do things like ‘find the right stamps and box or envelope’, I pay them extra to do it for me. Outsourcing ‘how to get something somewhere’ has saved me so much.

Because they’re also a notary, they know a lot about the local paperwork. I almost threw out a doc that looked like junk to me but she knew that it was an important doc from just seeing the back of it.

Also, there are cats.

Is it just me or has #PixelFed been down for a while? I can't seem to connect to the server and it's been like that for a while now.

오늘(어제) 미국 주식이 좀 많이 내렸는데 AI가 사람만 자르는게 아니라 기존 기업들도 박살 내면 그 기업에 돈 빌려준 은행, 투자회사, 사모펀드도 망하는 것 아니냐는 공포가 크다고 하네요. 잭 도시가 냅다 직원 절반 (6000명) 자르고 앞으로 이게 스탠다드가 될 거다 같은 소리를 했는데 화이트칼라 개발자 사무직이 절반이 잘리면 소비가 터지고 부동산이 터지고 그러겠죠... AI로 돈 풀린 것 때문에 물가는 올라가니 더 큰 일이라고.

@zkatkat the gen ai code issues in software engineering land are not the beginning of a new problem, just a continuation of what was already there.

The majority of software devs have been making life worse for everybody else for a long time now. For every Stenburg and Torvalds and FOSS volunteer there’s 10,000 software engineers working at some big company, shitting out code that’s either functionally bad or ethically bad or both.

IMO the issue is the culture. Somebody who takes a job at meta or google ect is somebody who has already decided that as long as they get paid, they’re happy to cause harm to others. It’s not too shocking then to realise these are the same people who would happily use ai coding tools in a way that puts others at risk.

(어제도 적었지만 이 글에서도 지적하고) 많은 회사들이 어려워지니 사람 자르는 핑계로 AI 도입을 자꾸 들고나오는데 근본적인 문제/해결책은 당연히 그것이 아님; 경영을 못한 본인들의 실수를 변명/커버하는 용도로 쓰고 있는것; AI는 비용을 절감할수 있는 마법의 도구가 아니고요 물론 점차 도입은 되가고 있지만 그냥 프린터나 자동차 엔진 같은거라고... 기존에 하기 어렵던 일을 싸고 쉽게 하도록 도와주긴하는데 아직 사람이 하던일을 완전히 대체하려면 갈길이 멀고 발전을 더 많이 해야함.
