Hackers' Pub is a place for software engineers to share their knowledge and experience with each other. It's also an ActivityPub-enabled social network, so you can follow your favorite hackers in the fediverse and get their latest posts in your feed.
Someone brought up the issue of running out of space on btrfs and not being able to delete stuff. There are posts about this from years ago, but I wanted to see if it's still a problem.
The answer is... kind of, if you try hard enough and do absolutely unhinged things. I had to create a snapshot of a tiny (4GB) but full (data + metadata) filesystem with hundreds of thousands of files (with data, with xattrs, and empty to fill everything up) and then delete files without deleting the snapshot, retrying when I got an error and sync()ing the filesystem every time. At one point I managed to make the FS go read-only, and then remounting again and trying more torture in parallel shells eventually got it wedged into a state where it couldn't mount R/W at all (cannot do orphan cleanup due to -ENOSPC).
Even then, the FS was still mountable R/O (so all the data was recoverable). And even then, I found a way out: although you can't add a device to a FS that isn't mounted R/W, you can expand the base device with btrfs filesystem resize --offline, and you can use dm to glue two devices together temporarily for this purpose. I was able to mount R/W then, delete stuff the "proper" way (snapshots first), shrink again, and completely fix the situation.
So yeah, I don't think this is really a problem any more, more specific bugs notwithstanding. You have to try really really hard to cause the issue and even then there's still a way out.

そういえば左肩の可動域が減ってたのなんだか緩和されてきた気がするな…
最近CWT場次有噁男用紙條讀心術（Billet technic)去強迫要別人女生的電話的fb投訴，本來以為是動漫圈裡面哪個不檢點的男生騷擾，但是好死不死這件事就是被身為魔術師的我看到：
1、一般正常的魔術表演者都會事前告知「僅限表演用途使用」，並徵取觀眾同意，使用表演完之後也會將有記錄的個人資料當面銷毀或交給觀眾（包括在撲克牌上簽名的牌），會違反你觀眾意願的就有問題。
2、我根據匿名投訴推測，該位噁男使用的是最古典的紙條讀心術版本，該版本發明於1920年，故已進入公領域之公共財，為了讓各位學習戲法自娛娛人，也為了反制騷擾，我將釋出兩個版本：
a、Billet technic 1920 version ：古典版本的表演法。
b、#反將他一軍換掉他讀心紙條的反制版本，我研究出這個版本是為了反制騷擾，如果對方真的是為了純粹表演的話，請手下留情。
3、根據投訴的對話內容應該是某個PUA 戀愛家教班，這剛好踩到我的地雷，#你竟然敢拿著魔術去做不是娛樂本質的事，你死定了。

Wchodzę od rana na Masto, a tu Windows 12 nadchodzi.
1. AI jako fundamentalna część systemu.
2. System modularny.
3. Wymóg posiadania w kompie specjalnego modułu NPU.
4. Zaawansowane opcje AI za subskrypcją.
5. Odświeżony wygląd.
Rozłóżmy to na czynniki pierwsze, bo mamy tu istny festiwal wszelkich zapalników do wielkiego wybuchu:
1. Widzieliśmy już jakość AI od Microsoftu. Nie jest kiepska - jest zła, najgorsza na rynku mimo tego, że ich CoPilot używa pod maską Chatu GPT. Skąd ta różnica w jakości? Ano powiem Wam skąd - MS oszczędza nie tylko na ludziach, ale też na AI obcinając sztucznie okienko kontekstowe Chatu GPT. To dzięki temu może oferować nadal AI za darmo ale też utrzymywać konkurencyjną cenę $10 za Github Copilota (który swoją drogą też jest najgorszy na rynku XD).
2. O tym to ja już słyszę od chyba jeszcze czasów Windowsa 8. Normalnie to bym się cieszył, ale znając ich partactwo to nie ma z czego.
3. Biorąc pod uwagę, że obecne modele lokalne nawet z modułem NPU działają raczej słabo i nadają się do niewielu sensownych zastosowań widzę w tym raczej coś pokroju modułu TPM - wymuszenie na ludziach by wymienili swoje sprzęty, a AI i tak będzie w 90% działać w chmurze.
4. Tego wszyscy powinniśmy się spodziewać, bo to jest naturalna kolej rzeczy. AI jest piekielnie drogie i ceny, które mamy do płacenia w tej chwili za subskrypcje narzędzi LLM są i tak niskie.
5. MS już kombinował ze zmienianiem wyglądu Windowsów (8, 8.1, 11) i zawsze kończyło się to wkurwieniem użytkowników. Najgorzej było z Windows 8, bo tam zdecydowano się na rewolucję, co jest niedopuszczalne w przypadku użytkowego UI, do którego przywykły miliardy użytkowników przez lata. Teraz niby zmiany mają być mniej rewolucyjne, ale wciąż będą wymagały zmiany przyzwyczajeń.
Odpływ użytkowników do Linuksa i macOS będzie trwał, a po premierze tego ustrojstwa pewnie przyspieszy.
