⚠️ Tomorrow, the 9th of March, MEPs in the civil liberties committee of the European Parliament are voting on a truly chilling proposal for a new EU mass Deportation Law, aka the "Returns Regulation".

As organisations like Equinox: Racial Justice Initiative, Access Now and others in the ProtectNotSurveil coalition have highlighted, this is a big step towards creating an EU version of ICE, codifying racial profiling and further criminalising solidarity and movement in Europe.

I've seen a lot of bad laws in my time at EDRi but this one gets first prize for its complete lack of humanity. It is essential that MEPs reject this law when they vote tomorrow.

If you're reading this over your Sunday morning coffee, there is still *just* time to do something:

✍️ Sign the petition NOW: action.wemove.eu/sign/2025-12-

On International Women's Day, a reminder that investment in sustainable transport is an equality issue. A transport system that assumes car ownership and doesn't provide safe and accessible alternatives is an unequal system.

It's International Women's Day, so when you see people zooming by on electric scooters, I remember Lady Norman and her autoped. She was a suffragist who insisted on being mobile without manly "protection" :) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Priscill

(UPDATE: Yes, many men in the replies. The autoped used a combustion engine, I know. My post is however NOT about the autoped, it's about the woman standing on it. I know, that's really hard for some of you to deal with. :)

RE: recurse.social/@lindsey/116189

It’s the same thing many techbros were saying out loud when they founded gig economy companies to do their laundry, cook their food, handle their errands, and clean their homes: “now that I have $app, I don’t need a mom/wife/gf to do it anymore.” It tells you what they thought women were for, all along.

Just Earth: How a Fairer World Will Save the Planet by Tony Juniper, 2025

In this extraordinary and hopeful book, leading environmentalist Tony Juniper CBE identifies the real problem at the heart of the climate and nature crises. From soil loss to wildfires, degraded rivers, mass migration and conflict, the environmental crisis is already here - and it's set to get much worse.

While billionaires build remote bunkers and make plans for colonies on Mars, climate collapse impacts the most vulnerable among us first and hardest. But what this radical and ground-breaking book proves is that inequality isn't just about who suffers the consequences, it is the main obstacle blocking action – and it has been for decades. How can people lead good lives without ultimately hastening global collapse? The answer lies in fairness. We can't fight the climate and nature crises without addressing the ever-widening gaps between the rich and poor, the powerful and the weak.
Drawing upon more than 40 years of experience in research, practical work, campaigning and advocacy, combined with interviews with globally renowned experts, in Just Earth Tony Juniper reveals the system shifts needed to achieve real, lasting change.

Analysis suggests US behind school strike that killed at least 165

Evidence assembled by The New York Times suggests a strike that hit an elementary school in the southern Iranian town of Minab were carried out by the US.

The newspaper reports that satellite imagery, social media posts and verified videos indicate the school building was severely damaged by a precision strike at roughly the same time as attacks on an adjacent naval facility operated by Iran’s Revolutionary Guards.

US House rejects war powers resolution on Iran

The US House of Representatives rejected an effort to stop President Donald Trump’s war on Iran and require that any hostilities against Iran be authorised by Congress, backing the Republican president’s military campaign on the sixth day of the expanding conflict.

The vote was 219 to 212 in the House, where Trump’s fellow Republicans control a narrow majority of seats.

A similar measure was voted down yesterday in the US Senate.

“What we have asked for is obviously prompt, transparent and impartial investigations, which we understand has been announced by the USA,” Turk told reporters in Geneva.

He emphasised that “we need this to happen very quickly and we need to also make sure that there is accountability as well as redress for the victims”.

It's International Women's Day. is there a woman who means a lot to you — a woman you really depend on, perhaps without ever realising it? Take the time to tell her, today, how much you appreciate her and how glad you are that she's there for you. I guarantee it'll mean a lot to her.
