『현대사상 입문』은 트위터에서 독서모임 첫 책으로 고른다는 이야기가 화제가 되어 신경쓰게 된 책입니다. 전자책으로 사려고 리스트에 넣어놓고 잊어버리고 있다가, 와이프가 구매한 김에 읽게 되었습니다.
독서모임을 주관하다보면 각자가 알고 있는 배경지식이나 니즈가 다 다르기 때문에 일단 현대 사상에 대한 기초적인 인식부터 합의하자는 의미로 '현대사상입문'을 첫 책으로 선정하곤 하는데 독서모임하는 친구가 현대사상입문 읽으면서 굉장히 인생이 편해졌다고 하는 게 신기했음

책은 현대 일본의 지적 환경에 많은 영향을 준 포스트구조주의 철학자들의 대표적인 발상과 그 전후의 맥락을 소개함으로써 포스트구조주의를 이해하는 단초가 되는 입문서입니다. 잘은 모르지만, 일본에서 '현대사상'이라는 단어는 포스트구조주의를 가리키는 경우가 많은 모양입니다. 그러니까 책을 좀 더 정확히 설명하는 제목을 붙이자면 '포스트구조주의 입문'이라고 할 수도 있겠지요. 한국에서도 현대사상이라고 하면 포스트구조주의를 가리키는 게 아니라면 말이지만요.
책에서 다루는 철학자는 대강 표지에 있는 순서대로로, 데리다와 들뢰즈, 푸코부터 시작하여, 과거의 니체, 프로이트, 마르크스로 돌아갔다가 정신분석의 계보로 라캉과 르장드르를 다루며, 최근의 철학자들을 다룹니다. 옮긴이의 글에서는 '프랑스로 한정지었으면 이런 사람들은 언급해야 하지 않냐'며 몇 이름을 더 짚는데, 그 이름들까지 포함하면 그래도 대충 포스트구조주의/프랑스 철학에 대한 멘탈 모델과 관련 개념의 색인이 머리 속에서 그려질 것 같습니다. 그런 면에서 좋은 입문서일 것 같다는 생각을 합니다. 독서모임의 첫 책으로 시작해서 참여한 사람들의 공통 화제로 삼는다면, 다른 책에 대해 이야기할 때에도 넓고 얕은 공통분모로 가져갈 수 있겠네요.
