I love a good side-project. Like most geeks, I have a tendency to go down rabbit holes when faced with problems - give me a minor inconvenience and I’ll happily spend weeks building something far more elaborate than the situation warrants. There’s joy in having a playground to explore ideas and “what ifs”; Building things just for the sheer hell of it, as Richard Feynman put it “The Pleasure of Finding Things Out”.

About memory pressure, lock contention, and Data-oriented Design

I illustrate how _Data-oriented Design_ helped to remove annoying memory pressure and lock contention in multiple sorters used in the Matrix Rust SDK. It has improved the execution by 98.7% (53ms to 676µs) and the throughput by 7718.5% (from 18K elem/s to 1.4M elem/s)! I will talk about how the different memories work, how we want to make the CPU caches happy, and how we can workaround locks when they are a performance bottleneck.

毎回忘れるのでここにメモ。 私はVivaldiというタブブラウザを使っていますが、（後で見ようと思っていた価値のある）タブをたくさん開いた状態でウインドウそのものを閉じてしまって、そのタブが復旧できなくて困ることがあります。 その時は、 ・タブバーのタブがないところ（＋ボタンの右あたり）を右クリック ・「閉じたウインドウを開く」 でウインドウごと復旧できます。

⚠️ die Zugangsdaten von Mailkonten, wohlgemerkt von welchen die bei anderen Providern liegen, speichert

⚠️ beim Mailabruf die Mails über die eigenen Server schleust, wobei unklar ist ob sie dabei den Inhalt "verarbeiten" (z.B. auch für KI), die Metadaten "verarbeiten", ...

... und irgendwie scheint sich das nicht herum gesprochen zu haben, oder es ist den Konteninhabern total egal, ich weiß es nicht 🤷. Aktuelle Analyse, auf einem System von , zeigt klar die Nutzung des "neuen Outlook", trotz Schulungsunterlagen auf -Basis 😟.
