Hackers' Pub is a place for software engineers to share their knowledge and experience with each other. It's also an ActivityPub-enabled social network, so you can follow your favorite hackers in the fediverse and get their latest posts in your feed.
Remember when I said that IMO @jay.bsky.team is the right person to lead Bluesky and that I am sympathetic with many design decisions of Bluesky (even if critical of them for being non-decentralized)?
Bluesky is building what they can for a scale big objective. The tech flows from goals.
So too does the social structure flow from the tech. It does on Bluesky, and it does on the fediverse.
I won't elaborate further on this, I actually would like you to pause and think about it. In which ways are tech and social systems bidirectional, here and otherwise? It's important.

The vision laid out for the fediverse, both independently in my writings and even in Jay Graber and I's joint proposal... well, it's a big lift.
@spritelyThe Spritely Institute would like to see if we can retrofit our version onto ActivityPub. Time will tell if that's a separate thing.

Unfortunately it's not feasible or easy to do everything we'd like in decentralized social networks today... not on the fediverse nor anywhere!
The vision of Spritely is "secure collaboration". Finding how to do it was a four-year research project before the Spritely Institute even launched!

I don't know about you, but there's a lot about the world today that worries me. I don't think building decentralized versions of Web 2.0 era social networks is going to get us there.
We need tech that's secure, that's robust.
We need tech that's *participatory*.
We need tech for you and me.
One of the things I'm most proud of about the fediverse is that it owes its success to a lot of queer people working on it. This lead to the fediverse being very queer itself. I'm proud of that.
Maybe it's weird to say, but that seems to be happening again with Spritely.
I laid out definitions of "decentralization" and "federation", and Bluesky meets neither, without major rearchitecting or moving the goalposts on those terms, which I cannot accept.
However, "credible exit" is a good goal for Bluesky. Bluesky created that term and it's a good and feasible goal.
I laid out a strong critique, but let me end on a call to empathy.
Bluesky is built by good people, and the fediverse is built by good people. Neither reflect the designs I presently would like to see today, but ultimately these are built by humans trying their absolute hardest.

Is it possible to use it to combine multiple accounts into one?
That is, can I `movedTo` all my old accounts to one new account, and set *several* `alsoKnownAs` on my new account's actor?

As a designer who doesn’t know what he is doing I’ve longed for something like this to make sure the code my AI is spitting out works well. I kinda even tried building skills and docs with Claude 2 weeks ago, but the thing is: I have no idea what I’m doing.
Paul knows exactly what he is doing, I’ve been learning so much from his resources already and these new skills and agent files are soooo valuable for all the people like me who had the barrier to entry lowered so much with agentic coding.

Beispiel: Ich bin am Montagabend beim

Regio Preis ohne Bahncard: Kiel -> Hamburg 28,90€ (für 90min Bahnfahren?!).
Auf der Strecke fährt ja nun mal auch sehr selten was anderes, außer einem Regionalverkehr, und somit ist es selten, dass man einen Fernverkehr Sparpreis buchen kann.
Wenn ich aber nach folgender Strecke suche und buche: Kiel -> Hamburg HbF -> Hamburg Harburg und dann noch einstelle, dass ich von Hamburg HbF -> Harburg mit dem Fernverkehr fahren möchte, bekomme ich einen Sparpreis für 19,99€ ohne Bahncard. (Dabei fährt diese Verbindung dann sogar über Lüneburg)
Je nach Sparpreis Verfügbarkeiten und Bauarbeiten im Hamburger Fernverkehr kann das auch günstiger sein. Es muss aber immer vorab gebucht werden.
Die Regiofahrten sind i.d.R. auch ohne Zugbindung, heißt, man kann auch später oder früher fahren.
Schöner Hack. Noch schöner wäre es, wenn die

Co vlastně znamená zemřít? Celou věčnost se mi tyto blouznivé myšlenky honily v mém temném pokoji hlavou. Představoval jsem si, jak právě v tuto chvíli jistě někde někdo umírá. To není žádné podobenství, vtip ani domněnka, ale pravda. Stoprocentní skutečnost. Teď žijeme, ale bez ohledu na to dříve nebo později všichni zemřeme, takže by se vlastně dalo říct, že být naživu znamená čekat na smrt, ne? Proč tedy vůbec za těchto okolností lidé žijí? A kdo jsem vlastně já, který stále žije? Úplně jsem se v tom utápěl, ničemu jsem už nerozumněl, mnohokrát jsem usnul, těžce oddechoval a zase se budil. Pak jsem na to přišel. Napadlo mě, že umírání je stejné jako spánek. Je v tom jediný rozdíl, to, že člověk spal, se pozná, až druhý den ráno, když se probudí. A pokud ráno nepřijde, člověk zůstane spát navždy. Není právě tohle smrt? Pokud ano, pak by to znamenalo, že si zemřelý není vědom toho, že umřel. Svou smrt nikdy neuvidí. Takže ve skutečnosti nikdo neumírá? Nad tímhle zjištěním jsem kroutil hlavou.
