When we think about privacy, we often focus on the technical tools. While this is an important part of it, it's crucial to also consider how regulations and invasive practices can impact us collectively.

Whether or not the tech world is capitalizing on this declining trust, it's certainly making medical alternatives more convenient. The reality is that people are turning to this often free, always available, and quick-to-use technology for answers that a doctor or medical professional would once provide: Why you probably shouldn't tell a chatbot everything about your health zdnet.com/article/medical-advi

A dark image. The background is unclear and blurry. On the foreground on the left there is a huge circle, inside of which a profile picture belonging to @rileytestut@mastodon.social. On the other side, a bit lower in the frame we see a fediverse logo, but on fire. This is the logo of the Fireside Fedi show. In between those two elements a text is written. This text says:

I'm Leeloo, born and living in Denmark.

I'm a software developer. My current languages are in order of preference C#, Swift, Javascript and C. I use Windows at work, everything else at home. Linux gaming desktop, Mac laptop, FreeBSD web server. I prefer keeping work and hobbies separate, and using completely different systems means I never get confused about something not being installed or where I expect it.

When I'm not sitting at the keyboard, I play the keyboard (get it?) Main keyboard is a Roland Juno DS, plus a melodica for when the weather is too nice to practice indoors, and a Keystation Mini 32 for playing around with virtual instruments.

I enjoy kayaking, but I don't get out nearly as often as I would prefer. I live too far from the water, and while my preferred transportation is bicycle or train, I do have a car, but a roof rack is not an option. For that reason, I have an inflatable kayak, which means getting out in the kayak basically needs to be a whole day thing to be worth it.

I enjoy cooking, and post food pictures on my blog.

I am a pre-everything trans woman and what I call "dysphoric asexual", meaning that the asexual part might change if I ever get to have the body that my brain expects. For now, my interest in women is non-sexual, and men is at most a fantasy.

Everything we've made will break, buildings and streets will crumble, and cities will be abandoned. But the CO₂ we emit into the atmosphere will persist for millennia, and its climatic impacts will last longer than human civilization has existed. This is our legacy for the future.

This is a long shot, but is there anyone here who is signed up for marketing emails by leatherspa.com? Did you see this illustration get used in late January or early February?

My invoice has not been paid for illustration/design work I did in January and I am being ghosted by the design contractor for it. I am gathering information before I pursue other options.

@lmorchardLes Orchard wrote something that stuck with me: AI-assisted coding isn't creating a split among developers. It's revealing one that was always there, just invisible when we all worked the same way.

If you're mourning the loss of the craft itself—the texture of writing code, the satisfaction of an elegant solution—that's real, and no amount of “just adapt” addresses it. You might need to find that satisfaction somewhere else, or accept that work is going to feel different. Frankly, we've been lucky there's been a livelihood in craft up to now.

@codinghorrorJeff Atwood I saw this post today while having a smoke break out front of work. Never heard of it, no idea what it was about. I just finished watching it (after finding out how tf to watch it in Aus) and what an excellent recommendation! Fantastic documentary and very moving. Just reminded me of all those moments in silicon valley (tv series) when they would say "being too early is basically the same as being wrong".
