What is Hackers' Pub?

Hackers' Pub is a place for software engineers to share their knowledge and experience with each other. It's also an ActivityPub-enabled social network, so you can follow your favorite hackers in the fediverse and get their latest posts in your feed.

Update: we've decided to go ahead and submit the CFP to @COSCUP 2026. The track will be called Fediverse & Social Web—think FOSDEM's Social Web devroom, but in Taipei. is free to attend, like FOSDEM.

If the track is accepted, would you be interested in coming to Taipei (Aug 8–9) to give a talk?

(Boosts appreciated!)

we’ve had two low-grade terrorist incidents in our neighborhood in ~24 hours. A small explosion at a Jewish school, and a small explosion at an American bank (explicitly claimed immediately by some group as an anti-American statement). I live in a very Jewish neighborhood, which to be clear is not the one marked “Jewish quarter” on maps, due to Reasons within the last century you can reason about

Amsterdam is still one of the safest cities in the world, and certainly it’s not about to become a war zone or anything. But I’m a little disturbed and worried.

I see the announcement by a commercial marketing agency of a venture capital based app store joining the fediverse.

Is the we have capable of avoiding as it grows and attracts an increasing number of corporations, who make it their market?

Is our landscape resistant to corporate capture and eventual takeover and domination? Just like the Corporate Web, also decentralized.

There are nice niches on the web, like a bloggosphere, bulletin boards, and news readers, that all still exist. But web as a whole is predominantly corporate, arguably not commons based, for the people by the people.

Social experience design defines "commons based" as "where people are in control of their future on a path of healthy evolution and natural growth". A core principle is being sustainable at all times, and timely acknowledge and mitigate risks.

Is fediverse commons based? Did we cocreate the Future of Social networking?

Trump last night: „We are helping NATO with Ukraine, so NATO should help the US to keep the Strait of Hormuz open.“

This is a lie. Trump suspended all help to Ukraine with his inauguration. Not a single cent is going to Ukraine. European countries are buying US weapons. This is not helping, this purchasing. When I buy my goods in a store, then the store is not „helping“, it is making business.

Are you running a server on the Fediverse, either Mastodon or some other type?

Would you like it to be listed on the human-curated server directory at fedi.garden/fedi-gardens-full- ?

Is it compatible with all seven points at fedi.garden/about-this-site ?

If the answer to all these is yes, please message my other account at:

➡️ @FediGardenFedi.Garden 🌱

Let me know a little bit about your server in your message, or send a link to your About page 🙂
