Has anyone in the "UK ban VPN" camp considered how many corporate and legitimate use cases there are for VPNs?

Once upon a time, I had one setup to link my home and workspace systems together so WFH wasn't a compromise - and I was a company of 1.

Why did I have this setup - have you read the Ts&Cs of a non-disclosure agreement? of a multinational company? any and every mitigation against leaks is required and my VPN cost me around €3/month (wasn't hosted in the UK)

I'm still fat and I need to fix it. Let's try again...

2019年反修例事件期間，一名PTU警長在港鐵太古站追捕示威者時與對方一同滾落扶手電梯受傷，其後入稟向對方索償。區域法院今日（16日）裁定警長勝訴，被告須賠償約42萬元及訟費。

原告為警務處警長黃銘源，姓文被告為電腦軟件工程師，案發時23歲。案件在被告缺席下審理。案情指2019年8月12日晚太古站有示威者聚集，警方到場拘捕期間，黃追截被告時雙方在扶手電梯拉扯，最終一同滾下扶手電梯。

黃供稱事件導致其膝蓋受傷，事後需接受手術並獲批163天病假，同時被診斷出輕度創傷後遺症。他表示至今見到長電動扶手梯仍會感到緊張，右膝亦在天氣轉變時出現疼痛，只能慢跑，無法再進行足球或籃球等劇烈運動。

黃早前提出約54萬元索償，包括疼痛、痛苦與喪失生活樂趣（PSLA）、醫療費及其他開支，其後撤回因傷喪失賺取收入能力的索償。

한때 집중형 쓰기 앱들에 돈을 쓰곤 했는데 쓰는 장르가 바뀌어가면서 그런 앱들을 쓸 수 없게 됐다. 장르가 바뀐 글쓰기는 글만 쓰는게 아니라 자료를 미친듯이 동시에 찾아가며 써야하더라고. ...... 그래서 멋진 집중형 쓰기 앱은 사용할 수 없게 됐다. ㅠㅠ

@liaizonwakest ⁂ @andypiper i was disappointed that the mastodon quoting fep specifically identified that a quote would be invisible to software that failed to implement the spec, particularly since there was so much emphasis elsewhere to characterize failure to implement in starkly moralizing terms. one would think that if we intend to use terms like consent, the remote end failing to implement the spec would be able to understand the terms of the interaction. gts reply controls (which the fep cites, but mastodon has no intent to implement) do in fact provide just this kind of fallback, and in all respects demonstrates a more sincere respect for consent.

There is a ”Technical Program Manager at Google” posting LLM-generated slop articles about concurrency to lobste.rs and HN getting onto the front page, and it annoys me on several levels. The articles are plausible-sounding (to a casual reader) but wrong, which is bad enough. But I can see how to an unscrupulous person this kind of thing makes perfect sense. They use the slop to boost themselves and their careers, and the risk is minimal since someone has to actually understand things like Erlang message passing and concurrency to notice the factual issues, and be familiar enough with the flavour of LLM-generated bullshit to notice the confident-but-wrong patterns.
