베이즈 확률론에서 사후 확률을 다룰 때 베타 분포를 가정한다. 베타 분포의 확률 밀도 함수는 다음과 같다.

f(x;α,β)=1B(α,β)⋅xα−1(1−x)β−1 f(x; \alpha, \beta) = \frac{1}{B(\alpha, \beta)} \cdot x^{\alpha-1}(1-x)^{\beta-1}

여기서 B(α,β)는 베타 함수이며 다음과 같이 정의된다.

B(α,β)=Γ(α)Γ(β)Γ(α+β) \mathrm{B}(\alpha,\beta) = \frac{\Gamma(\alpha)\Gamma(\beta)}{\Gamma(\alpha+\beta)}
