In 2008, a pile of old junk was found under floorboards in an Austrian castle. VERY old junk - from the 1400s. It included several pieces of linen, which unlike wool or silk, usually decays quickly.
More specifically they found women's underwear, which is virtually never mentioned in surviving medieval texts. The discovery pushed back the invention of the bra by *several hundred years*. It's very modern looking.
The US patent for bras only goes back to 1914. At the earliest something like modern bras were thought to be worn in France in the late 1700s.

Reading Mental exploration of future choices during immobility theta oscillations

The authors look at #ThetaSequences in a working memory task in a radial arm maze. They find theta during immobility (makes sense, e.g. we saw that in our two-goals task). They also find that theta sequences might preferentially represent the next goal (also makes sense, e.g. Hippocampal theta sequences reflect current goals)!
I have only done a quick reading so far, but am confused by a few points:
the decoded algorithm itself includes a ' position transition matrix' which seems like it would bias decoding towards realistic trajectories that the rat is about to do??? (but I probably missed something)
also, this study is very related to this other paper, which is not discussed or even cited (😕 ):

I think a lot of people don't realize how difficult it is to do something as simple as sending out an e-mail -based newsletter.
There are a lot of hurdles in the way of your e-mail newsletter getting delivered to your subscribers.
E-Mail doesn't remove the gatekeepers or middlemen. It just replaces them with Google GMail, etc

"Patriarchy is the single most life-threatening social disease assaulting the male body and spirit in our nation. Yet most men do not use the word “patriarchy” in everyday life. Most men never think about patriarchy—what it means, how it is created and sustained. Many men in our nation would not be able to spell the word or pronounce it correctly. The word “patriarchy” just is not a part of their normal everyday thought or speech. Men who have heard and know the word usually associate it with women’s liberation, with feminism, and therefore dismiss it as irrelevant to their own experiences. I have been standing at podiums talking about patriarchy for more than thirty years. It is a word I use daily, and men who hear me use it often ask me what I mean by it.
Nothing discounts the old antifeminist projection of men as all-powerful more than their basic ignorance of a major facet of the political system that shapes and informs male identity and sense of self from birth until death. I often use the phrase “imperialist white-supremacist capitalist patriarchy” to describe the interlocking political systems that are the foundation of our nation’s politics. Of these systems the one that we all learn the most about growing up is the system of patriarchy, even if we never know the word, because patriarchal gender roles are assigned to us as children and we are given continual guidance about the ways we can best fulfill these roles. "

@_elenaElena Rossini ⁂ about self-hosting, I wanted to make a little thread about how I started with it and how it evolved over the years.
It all started with being annoyed by google ~4 years ago and deciding that I want to take my own data into my own hands, as much as for me possible. I'm an IT guy so I have some knowledge, but I've never been a "server guy". So most of it was new. 1/7
I keep suggesting to try #Linux via live CDs before switching, so you can find out whether it works for you. But I just realize that you can also run it one a VM.
So, install VirtualBox and install it there. It will also allow you to make sure you can install it yourself.
Just remember, just like live CD, it's not the same experience as when you're running it natively.
