Trump signed an executive order yesterday that designated English as the official language of the US—something the country has never had before. In all my time working as a psychologist I’ve only met with 1 person who truly met the diagnostic criteria for narcissistic personality disorder. I ended treatment relatively early, after maybe a month or so, when I recognized the hour was being spent as a time for him to air his grievances and try to prove he was smarter than me. I don’t remember how I put it but was very mindful to avoid causing narcissistic injury (like what we witnessed in the Oval Office yesterday).

I had to catchup on a lot of series and made another big step in my re-reading of The Lord of the Rings. Ah, and it has been an interesting month for new music!

February was a pleasant month, but perhaps not a very memorable one. I read The Two Towers and Red Team Blues, watched Silo and Mythic Quest, and played Hades 2. I also listened to the new albums by Oklou, Benjamin Booker, and MIKE.

This version brings two major improvements to our zero-dependency #logging library for #TypeScript:
New Synchronous Configuration API: You can now configure LogTape synchronously with configureSync(), disposeSync(), and resetSync(). Perfect for simpler setups where you don't need async operations!
Better Runtime Compatibility: We've moved all file-related components to a separate @logtape/file package. This means the core package now works flawlessly across all JavaScript environments—browsers, edge functions, and various bundlers without any file system dependencies.
Plus, we've added level mapping options for console sinks, giving you more control over how your logs appear.

フョードル・ドストエフスキー『未成年』（亀山郁夫 訳）光文社古典新訳文庫・上中下巻
『未成年』はドストエフスキーの五大長編のうちのひとつ。
二十歳の青年アルカージーの手記というかたちで、彼のごく身近な範囲で起きた事件について主観的に記録している。
複雑な出生により里子に出されたアルカージーが、二十歳でついに父と母と妹に再会するところから物語は始まる。
崩壊、そして無秩序といったテーマが描かれていて、主人公の家庭や知人だけに限らず、この国の変化やヨーロッパ全体の危機や破滅といった方向にも話がおよぶ。このあたりを理解するにはその時代のことを勉強しないとならないだろう。
アルカージーの話に付き合うのは正直大変だった。とはいえ、一度入り込んだらまばたきも忘れてのめり込んでしまうようなところがあった。
登場人物は70人を超えるが、話の流れを掴みにくい部分はあっても決して読みにくいわけではない。
それでもアルカージー本人も自覚している通りに、過去の愚かな振る舞いがたくさん書かれている。これは読むのがつらい。付き合いきれないと何度思ったことか。
些細なことで感動して、人の言うことをすぐに信じて、激しやすくプライドと理想だけは高い。彼にとっては目にするものが真新しいものばかりで、経験も少ないためにそうなるのはわかるが……。
アルカージーひとりだけが事態を把握していないという場面が多く、読者は根気強くこれらに向き合って読み進めなければならない。
それだけ作り込まれた人物像であったとも言える。
誰も彼もがいきいきと小説のなかで暮らしていて、他人にははかりしれない愛や憎しみを内に抱えながら、人間らしさにあふれ喜びと苦しみのために行動しているようだった。
『カラマーゾフの兄弟』でいうところのゾシマ長老のように、深い慈悲の心と魂の清らかさを持った人物が、この作品にも登場する。その口から語られる話を聞いている間は、わたしも心穏やかだった。
ここまで不満をいくつか書いたけれど、アルカージーを憎むことができないのは、彼の心の純粋な部分があまりにも脆くて孤独だからだった。
父母のことを恨むに足る理由はじゅうぶんにあるとわたしは思うけれど、アルカージーは父母のことを恨まなかったし、そう単純な話でもなく、人間の複雑な心を深く見つめる作者の視線を感じたのは確かだ。
願わくは、青年たちの純粋さが犠牲にならない未来がありますように。

In order to prepare my #textile #repair classes, I made a #visiblemending swatchbook. Its been a while that I wanted to have one object to show specific repairs when people ask what is possible to do with their damaged garments.
Before starting online classes, I will first see how the first class goes. Here's the programme:
Course 1/4: simple sewing stitches
Course 2/4: Darning and patches
Course 3/4: Knitwear repair level 1
Course 4/4: Knitwear repair level 2
I will give these classes in #brussels #bruxelles at the textile #fablab

It’s the weekend, so more odd contraptions.
A rack for seedling pots that I made for my wife. It’s designed to be propped vertically in the greenhouse, to make the most of space - but cobbled together so that whatever angle it’s at, the pots stay upright. Bit like the seats on a Ferris wheel.
The whole thing is on a pair of wheels, so that at hardening-off time (we’re still supposed to do that, right?), it can be trundled out and propped against a sunny wall, without everything falling out.
