We have been public about not using Go as the bootstrap language. We started with a compiler in C for a number of reasons, mostly for ease of bootstrapping but also to avoid making a compiler-optimized language instead of a general purpose one. Once the language was designed, we ported the code to Go for ease of maintenance and development.
Well here is a variant of that pattern: the TypeScript compiler is also being ported to Go: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pNlq-EVld70
The video is worth watching for the reasons why. Turns out a general purpose language is indeed a good compiler language.

I have 15 minutes on friday to try to Inform my coworkers about the side of internet we like, ie the parts not run by large companies. I can say whatever I like, including try to sell them on some integrity stuff.

Do you know JOPLIN? It's a nice European alternative to apps like Evernote, Google Keep, Notion, Microsoft OneNote.
Joplin is a free, open source note-taking and to-do application, which can handle a large number of notes organised into notebooks. You can search your notes, copy them, tag them and modify them either from the app itself or from your own text editor. The notes are in Markdown format, which is great.
It was created by Laurent Cozic 🇫🇷 back in 2016 as an alternative to Evernote. It's cloud service is hosted in Paris, France. They focus on privacy, security and transparency.
It's open source and offline-first, so you can always access your data on the device, even when you're not connected to the internet.
It's got all the basics you'd expect, and you can also attach images, videos, audio files and PDFs to your notebooks.
There's a huge community of people who have made extra features possible with their plugins.
It's also super easy to export and import your files, which is great if you're worried about vendor lock-in.
The handy web clipper extension lets you save web pages or take screenshots in the browser and save them to your notes.

I am trying to offer a 2010 ipad a second life with PHP and webdav / nextcloud. Not an easy task as I feel like a golden retriever looking at his reflection in front of a webdav API documentation.
It is impossible to install new apps on the old iOS, almost impossible to use the https web, the built-in web browser with insecure http is the last door remaining open of a very closed hard and software. My goal is to create a very basic access to nextcloud files so I can make it a media center. Any experience, help welcome.

Huh. I got this email and it does seem to be sent by paypal, but the To field is not my email address or one I know. I checked my paypal account and there's nothing about this. Any idea how I got this email? I'm assuming it's a scam.

Basically, they set up their merchant account with a merchant name that is literally, "If you do not recognize the seller, please contact.." hoping you don't notice all the other wrong details. But this does get them a legit email with a digital signature signed by the real paypal.com, which they forward to you.
Picard programming tip: When the holodeck malfunctions, stay in character. Don't piss off the computer.
