Thank you for all the advice!

In the end I got the Fitbit Inspire 3 because of its small size and general well supportedness.

The app is kind of naff, the whole thing isn't amazing but it does what I want, which is good.

Over the past year, we've been thinking about how we can improve the security of the Fediverse to provide a safer, more trustworthy experience for people of the Fediverse.

Today we're launching a time-and-funds limited Fediverse Security Fund, where we will pay researchers and contributors for the responsible disclosure of security vulnerabilities in open-source Fediverse software.

We're starting small as an experiment to gauge interest, figure out our processes, and eventually decide if/how to expand this program and make it more permanent. If you're a security researcher or upstream contributor, join us in making the Fediverse a safer place.

You can read more about this program on our blog: nivenly.org/blog/2025/04/01/ni

Apparently Automattic are laying off around one in six of their workforce. And I'm one of the unlucky ones.

Anybody remote hiring for a UK-based full-stack web developer (in a world that doesn't seem to believe that full-stack developers exist anymore) with 25+ years professional experience, specialising in PHP, Ruby, JS, HTML, CSS, devops, and about 50% of CMSes you've ever heard of (and probably some you haven't)... with a flair for security, accessibility, standards-compliance, performance, and DexEx?

together with @famfo, we’re publishing the first version of ruszt to crates.io! It’s our “Rust FFI for Bash” project, which allows you to create bash loadable builtins in Rust!

We’ll be using this within #HTTPsh to add faster versions of some resource-intensive parts, like the templating engine. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg!

Disclaimer: it’s a bit hacky and we don’t have docs yet; We do have examples in the main repo! Contributions welcome <3

(is this a bit insane? we think so too!)

terminal screenshot. it shows two files: src/lib.rs, containing the rust code for the builtin, and then run.sh, loading a builtin with `enable -f` and then running it.

The builtin gets the output of one variable, and sets another variable. Both can be accessed from rust as well as bash.

@jackwilliambell @CassandraVert @alberto_cottica @pluralisticCory Doctorow

Since markets are embedded (not isolated) systems, the entire world should be seen as the operating environment of a market actor. The path to least resistance to profits has always included exploiting information well beyond those relevant to cost factors.

We don’t get to choose what information capitalists act on. Much like in infosec, one should not presuppose how resources will be used, even when proper rules are in place.

This is a program that I've been championing within @nivenlyThe Nivenly Foundation over the past year, after we noticed that security vulnerabilities weren't being disclosed responsibly, and not enough research was going into the security of Fediverse software.

You might remember my Pixelfed vulnerability from last year, where OAuth scopes weren't checked allowing for privilege escalation via the API (CVE-2024-25108), that was our very first test-case of this program.

I'm incredibly proud to be involved in launching the Fediverse Security Fund from Nivenly Foundation (a 501(c)4 not-for-profit cooperative)
