I think I'm giving up with respect to my AI resistance. I need to start using it deeply so I understand it like I do other software, and I'm no longer sure the AI bubble will burst before society does more generally.

Bah.

If you have a favorite use case or platform, please share what it is with me, and why.

Just discovered that while Mona does not enable me to block instances, Tusker does. So I switched over to that to block an extremely annoying instance that generates hashtag spam via bot accounts. I've reported these accounts and the instance multiple times but no one seems interested in doing anything about it. The Block feature is amazingly powerful to keep crap out of your feed.

Hey, @andypiper, any idea if there's a fediverse-wide policy about hashtag spam?

roko's hallucination basilisk: a future superhuman intelligence emerges, but its prompt starts with "do not hallucinate", so it eternally tortures the humans who imagined that it could exist before it did, because that was a hallucination and is therefore not allowed

A friend does research on the history of nearby neighborhoods and then puts up posters with her findings. It never really occurred to me that I could do this - it's like bringing to "real life"! I would absolutely have defaulted to "make a website" but this physical sharing is much more delightful.

I need to find ways I can do this.

Do you have any examples in your life?

Fun Fact - Using Madison as a first name for girls wasn't really a thing -AT ALL- until after the movie Splash(1984) came out wherein a mermaid comes onto shore in New York and picks the name from the Madison Avenue sign.

(not to say it was never use but it was incredibly incredibly rare by comparison)

Graph of the slow explosion of popularity of the name Madison for girls starting in 1984

"What about free speech?"

A common question, often misunderstood. This new IFTAS Connect Library article breaks down what free speech really means (especially in US contexts), how it's often misapplied in moderation debates, and why community boundaries matter.
